In 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Guides, which
later became the Girl Scouts of America.

Ripped from the headlines! Or the History Bot, which ever.

So, who here joined the ranks of one of the girls or boys clubs? I joined the Blue Birds for a brief three month stint. I kind of got caught on the boys side of camp singing dirty Christmas tunes, and so ended my dippy blue uniform on Thursdays. I was in third grade, for cripes sake! What was I gonna do? Anyway....

When I was 4, my mom and dad made me stay with a family who eventually became a second family to me. My parents both worked and this family had a stay at home mom. She was "day care" for me. I was returned to my parents after 6, M-F.

Anyway, this lady had a son, and he was a Boy Scout. She was a Scout Mom. When the meetings were held, they could not keep me out of the stuff. I wanted to do everything the boys did. Luckily, no one ever bothered to tell me that I couldn't play with the boys. I went to all the meetings and did all the same activities - which included being hit in the head with a baseball*. I just didn't wear the uniform.

*I guess that explains some things?

Later, I was sent to be a Brownie, and then walked the bridge to be a Girl Scout. I remember walking over the bridge and thinking "This is just lame." I never went to another Girl Scout/Boy Scout meeting after that.

The best part about these groups is that it kept us busy.... and for the most part out of trouble...
