I guess this is something Ive never thought about before but over here we get asked all the time for ID in one form or another and usually its at least two forms theyre looking for as well. Im just waiting for the day I get asked for ID to visit the ladies room

I have been carded one time in the last 3 years. MOST people see the gray, and don't bother.

I wonder about the one girl who did. She was from South America.

I asked her, semi politely (the best I could do at the time cause I was late picking up the kids, and pissed at the traffic/assholes) where she was from.

Me - where are you from
Her - South America
Me - I need a trip
Her - ?
(busy getting my change)
Her - You made it here, you are doing OK
Me - Thank you (smile)

I left that convienience store thinking ...

I will need more stuff soon

I get asked for ID at the same video shop every week by the same old man. One day Im going to really surprise him and hand him dads licence just to see if he really looks or if its a habit. Im positive he never looks at it.

I was always the one who had to get beer, cuz I looked 21. Luckly, time slowed down a bit. I wasn't carded until 25 or 26. When I went down to the local bar to celebrate my 21st birthday, they thought my dad was kidding. You ain't seen red til you've seen my dad being told I've been going there for years.

When I was a younger, 18 was the "age" to buy the booze. Like Jake never got carded until I was in my late 20's. Well those days are long over, oh well the pains of being older.

Red, I would have thought they'd card you because you're so tiny. My friend's 4'11'' and still gets called a teenager. Mind you, she's 36 now.

What about the most obvious of all: an ID card? In Belgium everybody is required to have one and to always carry it with you as well. Credit cards. etc are not an excepted form of identification over here.

It sounds like big brother to me. how strict are your laws out there? Drugs, and such? Do you carry stiff penalties and fines for breaking the law in general? What exactly is this card and what information does it carry?

THe ID card holds the most essential info: your full name, address, birth date, national number. I much prefer the ID card. Simply because it is more difficult to forge them. I don't feel it as Big Brother watching you. Look at it from a different angle: everybody is able to prove his/her identity without much trouble and doubt. In some situations that's a plus.

As to laws: I don't know how to compare them to the US laws. In some ways stricter I guess (e.g. arms possession) but more lenient on other subjects (abortion, drugs etc).

Do ya'll think that sooner or later (because of terrorism), that we as a whole have I.D. cards?

They've been talking about it for a while now. But I am VERY hesitant on having it. I just don't trust our Government with it.

Mmmm Diva,

For what reason? Honesly, compared to what your government has on you in their most secret databases is peanuts compared to what's on your ID card. I think people perceive as not having an ID card as a false sense of freedom.

The idea that they already can track practically every move is one thing. But how secure are these national ID cards? How are you so sure that these cards cannot be forged?

I guess the reason I am so unsure of these cards is the fact that they do have so much information stored away already. For what purpose? And would the cards make that information more readily available for... ? Geesh! I'm starting to sound like Acidstrik! :cheesy:

With the proper resources, any document can be forged. So there is no 100% safety guarantee. But as I said, they only contain the most vital information. I'd rather show my ID card to a policeman on the road than having to go with them to the police station because they cannot ID me with certainty.

I tell you what any cop wantes to take me to a police station without me being under arrest is in for a real big fight. Out here they cant take you to a police station for no reason and not having ID is not illegal in australia YET. The only way a cop in Australia can take you forcibly to a police station is if you are under arrest. :) As for a national number? I only have one thing to say:finger: We are not cattle and refuse to wear a brand. :(

No probs aussie. I have actually used the photo on my driver's license to scare people in the past :cheesy:

Actually red the national ID that Sys was talking about is very similar to that tattoo. So dont laugh about ot mate I did hear a rumour thart your government is thinking of using sept 11 as an excuse to do the same thing to you. See how funny you think it is when you have a number you have to carry around just like that tattoo You will be like a cow with a brand on your arse :D
