I've been mooching around this site (http://thevisitors.info/) for the last few days, remembering how much I loved the original mini-series and the Final Battle series which followed it - beautifully handled for the most part, with one or two wretched moments (the birth sequence is so embarrassing I've blotted it out, although I remember being terrified by the apparently human twin). However, one thing still puzzled me - over here we never saw the TV series which followed the Final Battle, in which a second expedition is sent to earth and the Leader makes his appearance. I've always suspected this was because it must have been a bit pisspoor, and the soundclips sound dire, but did anyone here actually catch it?

I loved that show. We used to watch it all the time. Although my memory fails me as far as actual episodes, I do know that we never missed it when it was on.

Miniseries + final battle were great. Yeah, birth scene kinda sucked. So did the "ending". Never seen the TV show that followed.. seeing how I was in Soviet Russia hatin' all you "capitalist pigs" :p Oh, and the fact that I was .. what year was that.. 1, 2 or 3 years old didn't help either :)

The tv series - as opposed to the mini-series (alien fleet locks into orbit, makes contact, appears to be friendly, Donovan infiltrates them and discovers they are in fact reptilian conquistadores bent on devouring the planet, resistance forms) and the Final Battle (resistance grows, Visitors drop mask and establish fascist rule, revelation of Fifth Column which establishes links with the Resistance and helps overthrow them) was apparently about a second invasion in which the Leader makes his appearance. It's out on DVD quite soon, apparently - the first half is supposedly quite good, the rest is pisspoor.

I hated Independence Day when I saw it - so much had previously been done so much better in V...in fact, even the flying saucers were better in V, those initial contact scenes were far more terrifying.

I remember the original mini-series, but the only detail I remember was when one of the aliens, like, swallowed a rat or something??

Yeah, that features as part of the episode where Donovan infiltrates one of the motherships, climbs into a ventilator shaft and catches one of the supposedly human aliens taking out his contact lenses to reveal reptilian eye-slits, a forked tongue, green skin and the ability so spit poison...they ate a canary, a rabbit and some gerbils, too, if I remember correctly.
