Where's The War on Terrorism NOW?

Four explosions in London's transport system have killed at least two people and wounded dozens more in what UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said was an apparent terrorist attack.

A previously unknown group calling itself the "Secret Organization group of al-Qaeda of Jihad in Europe" released a statement claiming responsibility for the bombings.

It's hard to collect my thoughts when so many things are running through my mind right now. Anger, sadness, hate, guilt. Our war on terrorism got sidetracked. Hell, it stopped. Instead of moving forward to try and stop these groups we went for the oil. Fucking Bush.

I don't think that these groups will ever be stopped. I look at Israel and know that where there is hate there is a way to create destruction. I do hope that we can one day get back to cutting the money flow of these organizations... to put a crimp in their account, so to speak. My heart goes out to my friends in the UK. I wish you courage through these times of media frenzy and political hysteria. *hugs*

Although I live in Seattle now, I grew up in London, lived there for over 25 years, and it's where I consider "home".

The first I heard of the bombings was reading email from my Dad this morning, letting me know that he was okay. Which I guess is as good a way to hear as any - at least I know my family wasn't affected. I've been trying to call and email friends, and have heard back from some, but not all. One lives only two blocks away from the explosion that ripped the bus in half (she's okay, but shaken up by events).

The mood swing cannot have been greater. Yesterday, Londoners were celebrating being awarded the 2012 Olympics, and today this. I'm very upset.

I am relieved to hear that your loved ones are okay, Sterling. I hope that you hear from all of your friends soon. I can understand the emotions that are going on right now and hope that the people who are responsible are caught.

It's still too soon to really know, but I wonder how this will effect the atmosphere.

Not to go completely off topic: How do you usually refer to home? Britain, England or the UK? I am never sure which is appropriate.

One operative to detonate a bomb inside a train as another is passing, another two at point on stations, one near a counter-terrorism unit, another on a bus to provide a visual symbol - these people are not stupid.

Having said all that, I still think secular terrorists are smarter - when the IRA hit things, their warnings kept people guessing and their channels open, and they were at their most dangerous when they grew analytical and bombed the Baltic; when Baader-Meinhof kidnapped people, they tried their best to keep the workers out of it - these people are operationally smart, but strategically naive. But we were pretty lucky: bearing in mind what happened in Madrid, a death toll in the low 40s in a place as crowded as the Underground in rush hour is nothing short of a miracle.

Maybe it's nothing short of a miracle, but it still feels like my heart's breaking again- like the tsunami & 9/11. EVERY life is precious- whether there were 4 or 400 that died. My heart goes out to the people of England & the victims & their friends & families.
