Terri Schiavo, the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman at the center of a national legal, political and ethical battle, died this morning, nearly two weeks after doctors removed her feeding tube. Reacting to her death, President Bush sent condolences to Schiavo's families. "I urge all those who honor Terri Schiavo to continue to work to build a culture of life where all Americans are welcomed and valued and protected."

While that ends the bitter legal fued over her right to live/die, I imagine things are just warming up with the legal fued over where and how she is buried.

With all respect to all sides and all opinions involved, perhaps she finally got out of the situation of being left to suffer as a weapon for various sides in a moral debate.

G-d let you rest in peace.

As it always is, it's sad that someone has passed away. I know it will be hard on all the parties involved.

I'm not entirely sure how much it should matter to me however. I understandt that death is hard, and legal battles are also difficult, but I wonder if it's any of my business. I can't imagine she'd want to be a symbol for something she never was able to express an opinion on.

Did you see how fast the Republicans on Capitol Hill backed off from their "uncompromising" moral stand as soon as they saw the polls? Hahaha, what a bunch of frauds they are. I've seen more moral fibre in a banana split.

DeLay still had to bark out a retarded quip about "Those responsible for her death will pay".

Sounds kinda threatening to me. What really frightens me is the radical right-wingers that have come out of the woodwork over this, especially that one militia group that wanted to go in and seize Schiavo. Those are the kind of people that freak me out due to their tenacity and the extent of their willingness to die for their beliefs, and...holy shit, they don't even speak Arabic! What's Bush and the gang to do now?

On the way home this evening I was listening to AM Talk radio, though for the life of me I can't remember which conservative ball of love was hosting the show. Anyway, they opened up the show with this subject, and it took them about 12 seconds to invoke Godwin's Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law). It seems that her death is the beginning of Nazi death camps for anyone deemed to be a burden on the state.

Odd hearing that when the conservatives have control of the White House and Congress. I mean, how do you call yourself a conservative talk show host and still rip on the powers that be right now without coming off as a desperate hypocrite in need of a ratings boost?

It's interesting to see that kind of psychological displacement in action, isn't it? It connotes a desperate sort of father fixation that suggests latent homosexuality on the part of the entire Republican Party. Maybe the GOP just needs one big Mardi Gras parade and America would be safe again.

As long as they don't get married or enjoy it, 'cause, you know, that undermines the whole "sanctity of marriage" thing. Gimme a sec while I go beat my wife.

I love it- NOW the bible banging rightists are calling her death "an affront to religion". Give me a FUCKING break! Keeping her alive for 15 years in the state she was in, then allowing her to die the way they did is an affront to humanity, as far as I'm concerned.
KEVORKIAN WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!!
