ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of journalism in books like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself Sunday night at his Aspen-area home, his son said. He was 67.
The man, the legend, the patron saint of Gonzo Journalism himself died by his own hand tonight.
He was one of my main idols as far as writing was concerned...his rapier wit, knack for expression, and undying dedication to reporting the truth as he saw fit was an inspiration to me. I bought almost all of his books, lent them out to friends, did my damnedest to make sure that his talent was acknowledged by as many new readers as possible.
RIP, Hunter. This one's for you.
