View Full Version : From a Sad American
Someone posted a link to this elsewhere, and I thought I would share.
Just as another perspective. :)

4. Your constant references to the opinions of the rest of the world scared me, and I'm not talking about the "global test" comment. I don't care what Europeans think about me or my country. I learned in high school that living my life with one eye on the opinions of everyone else leads only to unnecessary turmoil and pointless pain. Why didn't you?I find this first point rather closed-minded. I mean, other countries have to care about what US thinks of them (or US will put pressure on them, not stopping at military pressure, either), but NOOO, US can't think of what other countries think of its actions--it's above reproach, of course!
President Bush won on values, yes, but not hatred of gays or any other stereotype you have in your head about Bush voters like me.
He won because he has values, clearly defined values, and even though I agree with little of what he believes, at least I know what he believes. At least I know that he really does believe in something. At least I know that he will do what he says he will do.This second one downright scared me--she seems to advocate supporting clearly defined values regardless of their content. Right, Hitler was a very charismatic public speaker and leader, and he sure did know what HIS values were and did not hesitate to speak of them, either.
Just to clarify things for myself. I do not necessarily agree with ANY of this person's points; I just like the letter and how it was done. I think she has a valid point as to why more folks may not have voted Democratic.
enty, I didn't think you identified with it for gossake. :)
I just wanted to point out that while she may have had some valid points, some of her other points really were quite ridiculous to the point of being scary.

I'm sorry, I tried reading that, but I only got as far as "You seem to think that Bush voters waited in line for hours to stick it to the queers" before falling off my chair in hysterics.

I flipped through this, admittedly didn't read it all, but the author sounds like a stupid cunt.

For sure, there are more there is more then one way to read that statement. Got lube anyone?
A stupid cunt? Ok. She sounds far from that to me, even if I don't agree with her opinions.
Enty--I wouldn't (and didn't) call her a stupid cunt (at least she can spell), but a lot of her opinions are either logical fallacies or are downright frightening (see my quotes and commentary). I would NOT call her smart, though.
