There are so many...at the very least, I would like the education system to be dramatically improved. I think it would help snuff out ignorance to an extent.

Eureka cruisers.

Eureka is the main drag around these parts, and you see, come friday and saturday night....all these 16-20 year olds decide to drive up and down it at 10 under the speed limit. Now if they had "cruising" cars I wouldnt care. But thats not the case. They have Bassmobiles if you get my drift. Cars with music so loud, it raddles the paint offa em. Disgusting if you ask me.

It just pisses me off because if you are travelling East or West in my area, you have to travel Eureka, there is no other real alternate. the police arent nearly aggresive enough, even though we have noise ordnances up the wazoo, let alone for impeeding traffic and the like.

I'm thinking of running for city council in 06' on the platform of getting rid of the cruisers, we will just have to se if people agree with me. I think they do....

I'm new to the place I live in right now, but Nemz suggested that what Sweden needs is a healthy does of shut the fuck up and stop whining. People here always complain about how bad a place it is to live, when in reality, it rocks--by world standards, and any other ones I can think of.

I guess they are just spoiled here. And I have NO idea how to fix that without breaking more things than it'd fix. I find that ignoring it largely works, though.

I guess here in Tucson....Drainage systems and the roads!!! We have no drains here...and during the summer we have monsoons (sp)...which means the streets flood on both outer lanes...so traffic is NASTY and half the time you can't even go down most streets.
And becuase of all the rain it tears up the roads..so we have huge potholes and cracks on a lot of the major streets.

People using their cell phones while driving. I seriously think that there should be a lot of measures taken to crack down on this. No matter what, you see someone driving with one free hand while yakking away, and then a few minutes later they almost have a car wreck because, well, you can't make a decent left turn while yapping away. Headsets are fine, but there's still a risk when you factor in people who can't even talk and drive at the same time, much less with a headset. People hold up traffic at stoplights because they're busy dialing or looking for the damn thing so they can answer it...it's unbelievable.

I'd call for a worldwide ban on stupidity, but that's a little tough. :P

Lil, no wonder - Swden hasn't been to war for two centuries. Sweden was left out of the war. Sure, they had to share the food, and some people had to bake on bark. But there were no war. The Soviet Union managed to shell a block on Sodermalm once, and some boats were sunk in the harbour, and the military was called in and on high-alert for six years, but that was it.

Fuirthermore, that meant there were no shortage of labour-force, and not much ruins in Sweden. We could build up to the standard we had before the war in a matter of a few weeks, and then we could start making money on the rest of Europe being ruins, and thus we became one of the richest countries in the world.

Also, we have had a tradition of class cooperation and people-friendly (mostly) governments, compared to the rest of the world. Homeless people and people starving to death is something that surfaced in the 1990's as a real problem, not before.

So yeah, we're rather spoiled. And we over-compensate by hanging on to whatever skeletons that are in our closets, or the problems we do have. I mean, you read my blog (http://thaumiel.blogspot.com/2004/09/reality-detachment.html) on what excessive privatizing has led to in Stockholm, right :) And our skeletons are bad.

First of all, Sweden was the first country in the world to open an eugenical institute (and that's 'racial biology', for those that like me has to check it in the dictionary), and not only that, we were one of the last countries to close it. In the sixties. Secondly, the authorities enforced non-volunteer sterilization, mostly on poor people because that would "create less criminals". That stopped also in the sixties. We crept for nazi Germany, let them transport material and soldiers over Sweden (called the 'transits' in history books and still toned doen) and we sold iron to them. Untill 44-45 when the tables had turned and we could safely change alliegances.

So yes, we have our skelettons. But we've been so well-off compared that we have become sloppy and spoiled - Swedes complain about problems, they don't deal with them. But we have issies that needs to be dealt with too.

Not using your turn signal while driving is now punishable by being drawn and quartered.

Goodbye, monarchy. You wore funny hats and tiaras and we paid for them, which was also pretty funny, now I look back on it, but still not as funny as you getting third place in the Presidential run-off between Empty Space and Thin Air in 2004.

Taking money out of political campaigning wouldn't be a bad idea, and maybe inheritable productive capital along with it.
