Sinclair Broadcast Group, owner of the largest chain of television stations in the nation, plans to air a documentary that accuses Sen. John Kerry of betraying American prisoners during the Vietnam War, a newspaper reported Monday.

The reported plan prompted the Democratic National Committee to file a complaint against Sinclair with the Federal Election Commission.

Sinclair has ordered all 62 of its stations to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" without commercials in prime-time next week, the Washington Post reported, just two weeks before the Nov. 2 election.

The company made news in April when it ordered seven of its ABC-affiliated stations not to air a "Nightline" segment that featured a reading of the names of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq; a Sinclair executive called that broadcast "contrary to the public interest."

I cannot even begin to tell you how upset I am. Whether it be a Kerry documentary or a Bush one, the media has no right to manipulate the views of the public.

I agree, but let me put a disclaimer on it. Had they released it as a movie in theaters, I would be fine with it. However, because a station many people turn to for their news is showing it, it's definitely wrong.

I really hate this whole presidential race...it's really starting to be draining.

I agree with Kitty on this one. A documentary released in theaters? Fine. Moore had his stint, if the Republicans want to do their counter-attack, cool. Whatever.

But if Moore had the ability to do as Sinclair is doing, the Republicans would have been royally pissed and struck him down hours after hearing this. I won't be surprised if Bush allows it to be screened (through some form of influence).

What really angers me is that they refused equal time to the democrats.

"Sinclair's plan to air anti-Kerry propaganda before the election is an abuse of the public airwaves for what appears to be partisan political purposes," Media Matters CEO David Brock said in the letter.

The letter warned Sinclair that its plan could constitute a violation of broadcast regulations requiring equal time for political candidates, as well as the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law, the group said.

By refusing ANY anti Bush ads or programs that put the Bush administration in a negative light while allowing an ad-free documentary to be shown is a disgrace to the public. This is what I have been fearing. People need to know the truth on BOTH sides. Using stations to promote personal agendas should be illegal. Again, this is for BOTH sides.

That kind of shit is illegal here. The media is not allowed to puposelfully represent any one side of politics.

If you didn't want to go see Fahreanheit 9/11 - you didn't go, you went and saw The Punisher or something, whatever - but this will be very hard to escape..

If anyone is interested here is a link (http://www.freepress.net/sinclair/index.php?z=) on how to contact the Sinclair company and a form letter to the FCC. I agree with Kitty. As a movie I see nothing wrong with it. But blocking any and all democratic ads while using their stations for a personal political view is outrageous.

Dewey,
The fact that the Sinclair group is forcing it's stations to air this is quite unfair. In comparison, no theatre was forced to show Fahrenheit 9/11 (or any other Moore film, or Going Upriver).

Forcing the stations to air the show, ad free, in prime time across a quarter of the States is a massive thing to do. It stinks very heavily of towing the Republican party line.

From your statements, it seems that you would watch it irreguardless if it were on all channels, or just one (which it should be).

This Anti-Kerry documentary, whatever merits it has, should not be given any more chance to be seen than say, Wheel Of Fortune.

Dewey, don't spam the boards. This is your only warning. I deleted your duplicate posts. I have no problem with the movie. Everyone has a right to their opinion. If you read through the post, the problem is when someone manipulates news programs for their personal political agenda.

Well at least the dumbass part of his name is accurate, but he forgot the B

The thing is, the FCC has only one democrate on it right now. So I doubt any plea we make will be acted upon, however thats not gonna stop me from telling them my bit.

I also heard that the director/producer of this documentry was sued for making one about the mispending funds for the Vietnam Memorial. He lied and misrepresent facts and etc.

And from what I heard this documentry is about, its basically saying NO atrocities took place during Vietnam, so Kerry is a liar. Thats kinda hard to believe considering the THOUSANDS of hours of testimony made by vets to the contrary.
