Oklahoma governor says it's irresponsible NOT to use racial profiling to prevent terrorism (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,44620,00.html). Just think how he could have stopped blonde haired, blue eyed McVeigh... Or The Unibomber...

In my opinion, racial profiling promotes racism. Anyone one else have a comment to add, for or against?

I have seen only bad come from racial profiling. If you categorize people by their color and then expect the worst from them, you can usually find someone to 'justify' your profile. But if people were to look closer, it's just a matter of odds. You will eventually find what you are looking for, but at what cost? McVeigh was able to do what he did because he didn't look suspicious. If he had been black, do you think they might have paid more attention to his actions. The Unibomber blended in... or they passed over him because he was white?

Timothy McVeigh... The Unibomber (I ain't looking that guy's name up, damn it. I'm not Amuarote). Racial profile slipping through the cracks, don't you think?

And what about your Australian Al Qaeda fighters? Wouldn't profiling miss those dolts? Or John Walker? You said that you were against Capital punishment because there could be innocent people murdered... Then be that statement I would think you would stand your ground because of the innocent people labeled, crucified, etc... because of profiling.

you argue a dubious point rather well Diva. However you look past the inocents that can be saved if you take a tool from the hands of law enforcement purely for the sake of political correctness (if such a word exists) I dont believe any one ever said it was a totally infallable tool. Nothing ever is, besides any tool is only ever as good as the tradesman who uses it.

You said that you were against Capital punishment because there could be innocent people murdered...

Im against capital punishment because of the inocent people who HAVE been murdered

I am not trying to get into a debate on capital punishment. We both know where we stand on that. Rather, I'd like to point out the consequences of making a decision without fully accepting the responsiblities of that decision. Australia has chosen not to use capital punishment, but they have not taken care of the prisoners who are now in their care. I'm just going to rattle off a bit of information:

[b]Australian Australian (http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/stories/s12075.htm) Broadcasting Corporation FOUR CORNERS 3/3/98:
Australia now has one of the highest rates of jail deaths of any developed country..... Margot O'Neill: "It's a national plague. Australia now has one of the highest rates of jail deaths of any developed country. They're being condemned by overcrowded prison systems at breaking point after tough new sentencing laws."

If you are going to keep prisoners alive, then you should make sure that the sentence isn't death by default. I don't see this as being any more 'civilized'. It's more like, 'We'll keep you alive. But you'll be fighting for your life in jail."

This brings me back to my point on racial profiling. As history has shown us, the watch dogs need watching. We locked up all the asians after Pearl Harbor. Granted, the camps weren't too bad, per say. But, do you agree that locking up a whole race was a good idea? It's racial profiling at it's worst.

If we go by racial profiling, then I should be terrified by a person according to their racial background? You must have missed my post, old man. get those glasses on and read! Do you agree with The americans locking all asians away after Pearl Harbor? To what extent do you think racial profiling should be used?

Well said my friend!

The good of the many outweighs the few, or might I use an analogy?

It's a proven fact that about 3% of North American Striped Skunks are born without working musk glands, yet these few animals won't likely be prey. Did Mother Nature create natural species/racial profiling for a reason?

Ironically skunks actually hate strong smells and this is one of the reasons they will only spray as a last resort. This has nothing to do with the smell of Muslim's.

Fighting skunks will never use their musk against each other. This instinct is genetically coded into ALL earths creatures for a reason. Like humans recoiling from a flame. Self preservation.

Are you willing to help an injured skunk in the slim chance they can't/won't spray you?

Don't get me started ... I might have to bust out the ole "lesbian titty dancer" analogy!

That flew so high over my head it's in orbit.

America is a country of color. Meaning, the caucasions are actually becoming minority. It wouldn't be just a few people displaced. Hell, you might as well throw a big ole fence around the whole country.

Can anyone really explain the true meaning of racial profiling put into action? I don't mean Airport strip searches... I'm talking in everyday situations. When is it implimented? To what extent? what garentees are there that retaliations on innocent people aren't going to occur?

We have been blessed with minimal terrorism. England, on the other hand, has lived with it as a part of their lives. Anyone from the UK have an opinion on this? Our livestyles are simular. Do they use racial profiling over there?

It's hard NOT to profile. When the statistics come out, you got two choices: Ignore them and hope for the best; Or heed them and tell the liberals that reality hits hard and fast the second before you become a victim.
