View Full Version : *Screams Into Phone* Uh-oh....
Sakinah Aaron was walking into the bus area at the Wheaton Metro station several weeks ago, talking loudly on her Motorola cell phone. A little too loudly for Officer George Saoutis of the Metro Transit Police.
The police officer told Aaron, who is five months pregnant, to lower her voice. She told the officer he had no right to tell her how to speak into her cell phone.
Their verbal dispute quickly escalated, and Saoutis grabbed Aaron by the arm and pushed her to the ground. He handcuffed the 23-year-old woman, called for backup and took her to a cell where she was held for three hours before being released to her aunt. She was charged with two misdemeanors: "disorderly manner that disturbed the public peace" and resisting arrest.
Who do you think is in the right? The woman yelling and cursing into her cellphone or the police officer telling her to lower her voice? What are your reasons?

I don't think it was a big deal that he asked her to lower her voice. But um pushing a preganant woman to the ground? Hmm
If someone was next to me screaming in a phone Id tell them to quiet down too.
Yeah, I read this earlier...The cop telling her to quiet down, oh well, I probably would have too...but I wouldn't have started pushing her around (especially being pregnant!!) just becuase she didn't listen.
Now see, there is a double standard here. Would you stop a pregant woman from robbing a bank? How? Being a public nuisance is a lesser crime, of course. However, she had no right to become disorderly with the officer. I do believe that he could have arrested her without the power slam though. Did I just give a double.........hmmmm.

The police officer was acting completly appropriatly in this case, the woman was causing a disturbance, he asked (or told) her to lower her voice (btw this is NOT an unreasonable request in a public place) when she refused, she was in violation. She was completly wrong in telling the cop that he had no "right" to tell her to lower her voice, he had every right to do so, it's his job to keep the peace. Then when she resisted arrest and tried to fight him he did what was necessary to subdue her. It sounds to me like this broad fell out of the stupid tree and managed to catch every branch on the way down. This also brings to mind the Chris Rock video "how not to get your ass kicked by the police".

Diva.
Was she "talking loudly" as the report says or "yelling and cursing" as you imply? There is a big difference in the handling/comment of this situation.
Additionally, I suspect the background noise in a bus station would require one to talk slightly louder to cover background noise.
From attached report, I couldn't agree with the policemans decision. However if she was swearing and cursing my opinion would be very different.
We need the facts!
2bSure, when I post a news report I try to post the main information. If you click on the link that says SOURCE at the top it gives you the complete story. Futher down it states that she was shouting obscenities into the phone a couple of times.
I gave you the facts, you just need to click on it. ;)
By the way, there's an introductory forum for new members. When you have a moment why not post something about yourself and how you found this place.

Cheers Diva, I hadn't noticed that (source), I have now read the full article, and tend to support the policeman, possible he could have handled it more discreetly, but then again i/we were not there to see exactly how loud/abusive she was.
Moile phones are becoming a nuisance in many public places, and probably will go the way of cigarettes in 10yrs
