View Full Version : Website Hacked
As you probably know the server was hacked two days ago. I ended up having to move all my data onto another server. Right now I'm trying to go through and make sure everything is working and the data is all moved. No small task...
1. If you find something that's not working PLEASE POST HERE so that I can fix it.
2. Please click around and tell me if anything isnt working properly. I really need your help gang.
3. If anyone wants to volunteer helping me click through the main gallery to make sure all the pictures are there I would really appreciate it. You can post which gallery you completed here also (or even up to what page). Just remember to actually click on the pictures (be careful for the xxx ones at work).
Fixes:
1. I just fixed the gallery. You can upload pictures now. *crosses fingers*

Thanks Diva, I will have to upload tomorrow, as my pics are at work. I will volunteer to check the NSFW pics then too. Out of the goodness of my heart of course:winkkiss: .
I'll keep my eyes pierced for ya darlin'. I saw something last night when I was posting, but can't remember what it was. If I see it again, I'll post immediately.

You know I'll help however I can! Anything I see I'll let you know about.
When ever I make a new thread, it says "There was and error Connecting the bit" at the top of the page after I hit the "Submit" button. Everything works all right, just that error message comes up.

No problems posting my new truck pics, the gallery seems to be working fine. Thanks Diva!:D
Diva and everyone--
Around the time the site was hacked, my computer was infected with something that made csrss process send data like crazy and generally bog down the computers. I don't know if I got it here or elsewhere, but in case it was associated with the hack, please check your computers everyone, and see if any of you are having the same problem.
I'll get back if I find anything not working on the site itself.

I'll keep an eye out hon. Anything we can do to help prevent it in the future?
I wish there was. I have to keep up on the latest fixes... which is expensive. But obviously not as expensive as this. :p

Hmmm, it looks like the very same thing happened at akpcep earlier today, I wonder if the same culprit is behind both attempts?

Well, for you hacker haters, get a damn clue. Hackers are not what caused this mess, it was a cracker. So get your damn information straight or say nothing at all. Nothing gets on my nerves more than people getting the wrong type of people mixed up with a different type.
If I am remember correctly, a hacker is someone who has alot of knowledge of computers and how they work and such, while a cracker is someone who knows just as much as they do, but are determined to damage property (websites or personal computers) while they stay conencted to the internet, LAN, network, or whatever else they have to access other computers or such.
Dude, calm down. Not everyone is "computer savy" and this wasn't a personal attack. No reason to get your panties in a bunch. "Get a damn clue" ? Try explaining it before you make a statement like this. Maybe you should follow your own advice.
George, I can use the term hacker if I want. It is still used to describe someone who hacks into a computer to get information. They fucked up and screwed my computer. I dont appreciate you flipping out over the use of a word.

n. Informal
One who is proficient at using or programming a computer; a computer buff.
One who uses programming skills to gain illegal access to a computer network or file.
One who enthusiastically pursues a game or sport: a weekend tennis hacker.

n.
A thin crisp wafer or biscuit, usually made of unsweetened dough.
One that cracks, especially:
A firecracker.
A small cardboard cylinder covered with decorative paper that holds candy or a party favor and pops when a paper strip is pulled at one or both ends and torn.
The apparatus used in the cracking of petroleum.
One who makes unauthorized use of a computer, especially to tamper with data or programs.
Offensive.
Used as a disparaging term for a poor white person of the rural, especially southeast United States.
Used as a disparaging term for a white person.
So, it appears as though either choice would be correct.
entipy, read the above post over. Let's see...
Hacker:
One who uses programming skills to gain illegal access to a computer network or file
Cracker:
One who makes unauthorized use of a computer, especially to tamper with data or programs
Both are different definitions. So, the correct term for this person would be a cracker and not a hacker.
By the way you talk, it sounds like alot of damage was done. So it would have been a cracker and not a hacker. A cracker will damage the site, files, or the system if he/she wanted to. A hacker would not have tampered with your site at all, unless you asked them to, so they could help you secure it.
Let me give you an example, if I were to say a woman looks like a slut, I would get slapped or thrown into jail for sexual harrasment or if I were to say most women are sluts, I could get called a sexist. But wait a minute! The word slut also means an untidy woman.
My point is, people today will learn stuff the wrong way if people keep using it in the wrong way.
Also, Diva, I am sorry your site was attacked.
HACKER: One who uses programming skills to gain illegal access to a computer network or file
It was illegal access. Both definitions fit. Enough said.

George... there are good and bad people in this world. You seem to think that all hackers are good. Well, they're not. It's the individual person and their morals that matters. Try looking up the term in different dictionaries...
Merriam-Webster (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=hacker)
Main Entry: hack·er
Pronunciation: 'ha-k&r
Function: noun
1 : one that hacks
2 : a person who is inexperienced or unskilled at a particular activity <a tennis hacker>
3 : an expert at programming and solving problems with a computer
4 : a person who illegally gains access to and sometimes tampers with information in a computer system
This person illegally gained access into my server, tampered with information, fucked up and fried the server.
This has been an EXTREMELY horrible situation for me, and I would appreciate it if you backed off. I do not want to be 'corrected' because you know some good people in this world who call themselves hackers. I do too. But like any person, a title does not automatically make them good or bad. In this case, the hacker fucked up my server and hit me on a financial and personal level. You're a good person, George. Just understand that there are more than one descriptions for a lot of things.
This post is for Boozer.
They both fit in one way, but nothing else. Do some math.
Illegal acess: 1 point for both.
Damage: 1 point for cracker.
So in the end, a cracker is the better and correct term.
And by that stupid dictionary site, can you tell me when(IE: date, time, etc. etc.) that definition was added to the hacker def? Or better yet, tell me when the def. for slut meant for a sexually active woman? The dictionary adds definitions daily I am imagining and only add's those def. that are commonly known and not the correct term of the actual word. Cause I know when I was introduced into illegal acess into websites and such(was curious about it then), I never heard of or saw that def. for hacker on that site or in a dictionary book.
Diva, once a hacker damages files or whatever, they step into the darkside of the force and become crackers.
Anyhoo, I am done discussing this stuff. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Dude, there's a lot worse things in this world to get upset about than a stupid definition of a word. Hacker/Cracker - it doesn't matter. The fuckhead messed with Diva's server and screwed a lot of things up.
you wanna get pissed about something, go for world hunger or animal cruelty. This is petty and dumb.
Dark side of the force? This is not some sci fi... this is my life and a painful event. If you want to discuss this further, PM me. I just need people who are here to support right now... not critique.
To the hacker group, it does matter! But anyways, yes that person did mess with the site and it sucks and for all we know, they could've stole all our email addresses and passwords. But hey, what goes around, comes around. I hope he gets caught one day and pays for what he did. I put alot of time into this site aswell. IE: Helping Diva get it upgraded and rewritting portions of code and such to help her out as much as I could, just to have a little dippy come along and damage it. It pisses me off aswell and I know what she's goin through. It's a pain in the ass.
Okay, so let's leave the definition shit alone, and that goes for everybody. I don't want to hear another word about it.
Addendum: Diva confirmed that there were no passwords/personal info tampered with on this level. The hosting company confirmed that as well. Whatever they were trying to do went wrong, and it didn't compromise any user info.
Well, that is good to know, even though the passwords are MD5 encryped twice I belive, so it owuld've done them no good. ;). Emails? Spam my account! Bwahaha. :P

I honestly don't see the problem here. Boozer is entirely correct - the terms are synonyms. The fact that "one is weaker" is completely beside the point: that is the nature of synonyms. Moreover, the fact that illegal damage isn't overtly incorporated into the taxonomy of "Hacker" doesn't necessarily mean that the opposite is implied. Of course, the hacker community may beg to differ, in much the same way as the White Boar Society begs to differ with the popular belief that Richard III was a sneaky, hunchbacked, shrill, nephew-murdering tyrant - in that case the onus is on them to try and reappropriate the terminology, because its pejorative connotations didn't arise simply because Matthew Broderick's suction modem in Wargames made it fashionable.

I am really sorry for the whole debacle. But the flame war IS entertaining, but still doesn't make up for it. I understand georges point about the difference. But hacker is what most non l337 p00pz types use for people who fuk up their shyt because they can. Either way, no reason to get so excited at defintions, on both sides of this arguement. Just do what ya can to find the rat bastage who did it.

Can anyone put this in southern english or just plain english?

they are both hackers, no different, just a different name a hacker did hack this site, this hacker was probably a cracker too, but there are names for these kind of people you see.
Black hat is used to describe a hacker (or, if you prefer, cracker) who breaks into a computer system or network with malicious intent. Unlike a white hat hacker, the black hat hacker takes advantage of the break-in, perhaps destroying files or stealing data for some future purpose. The black hat hacker may also make the exploit known to other hackers and/or the public without notifying the victim. This gives others the opportunity to exploit the vulnerability before the organization is able to secure it.
so in future chill dude and you get your information right also!
