View Full Version : I can't stop....
I went out to a local used bookstore today to look around at their selection. I'd been there a few times before and they had a lot of great stuff, so I figured I'd drop by again. I went in, browsed for a while, and bought an Elmore Leonard book for $4 and Johnny Cash's autobiography, "Cash", in hardcover for $9. I brought it home, started reading, and am hooked. He was a great writer whose storytelling gifts transcended from his music to literature. This book is one of the most heartfelt and entertaining autobiographies I've ever read, and I don't like many biographies/autobiographies. It's nice to get to know a bit more about one of my favorite musicians.
So, what's a great book you've read as of lately?
Does Playboy count?
I like biographies, as long as it's someone I'm interested in.

I'm currently reading Conquistador by S.M. Stirling, I'm about 3/4 of the way through it and it is easily as good as his Draka series. If you haven't read Stirling, I highly recommend either the Draka series or the Islander series, they are some of the best alternate reality novels I've ever read.

Sci Fi and fantasy stuff. David Weber, John Ringo, David Drake, etc.. I got 70+ books in a couple different formats each from Baen Free library. The free CDs filled with books, that is also free to distribute. I actually like the MS Reader format, and I think I'll put it up on my site to download. At least the MS reader versions.
Baen Free?
....link me?
Gutenberg.org and textz.org are also good resources...

Plus, I'll throw the MS Reader format on my web, and post link then, though that will require me to get my ass out of my chair and move 2 meters to the other computer :p
I'm still reading The Count of Monte Cristo. Slow-going. I've been distracted by other things.
Just bought Songs of Susanna...the 6th book of the Dark Tower series from Stephen King.
ARG!

Currently reading a book by an Albanian author, "Les Tambours de la pluie" by Ismail Kadare, took time for me to start reading it, mainly I'd read two other of his books in a row so I needed a small gap before starting the next one. It's interesting, about a siege by the Ottoman Turks attacking an Albanian fortification.
Near the end you understand the title.

I still have to read Wolves of the Calla.... :(
OMG....Start it, and then finish it.....Otherwise I can't talk about it...!
I haven't read much of anything lately except various signs and ads in Swedish. I do not recommend those, though they do work ok as study aids for the language.

Swedish is an interesting language, mainly because once you speak at least one of the Scandinavian languages you're able to speak to others, same roots. Have a Danish Swedish friend who can understand at least five languages, quite normal for that part of the world.
Recently your Neighbour Denmark has been in the news because of it's restrictive migration laws concerning spouses.
Kitty - I'm enjoying it so far. It's a tad bit slow right now, but that may be mostly due to my distractions. (Yard work, crochet, reading up on Heathenism) It IS long!! :) I'm not in a rush, though. I'm at the carnival in Rome part right now... just waiting to see how it's going to play out.
This dude was DEE-TER-MINED, man! Such detailed plans. It's awesome.
