Brian Muller, an Army bomb squad team leader who served on a security detail for President Bush, said he was dismissed from duty after deciding to tell his commander he's gay.

I didn't do it to get out of a war — I already served in a war," Muller, 25, said in an interview. "After putting my life on the line in the war, the idea that I was fighting for the freedoms of so many other people that I couldn't myself enjoy was almost unbearable."

I read this story and thought about the soldiers arrested for raping and murdering a young girl. You're probably asking which one, right? Those guys would be welcome in the military over a gay man. Why? You dont hear about gay rapes, do you? I assure you there are plenty of gay men and women still in the military. If a man or woman wants to serve their country and fight for the rights of others, why cant they?

I have met people with many different backgrounds and their sexuality was never a determining factor in their trustworthyness. Telling me that a gay is not as capable as a heterosexual is just like telling me a woman is not as capable as a man. This isnt church. This is our government making the rules. For them to tell me that based on a persons' PERSONAL preference they are incapable of performing their duties just opens the door to backwoods equality. Meaning... you're as equal as long as you have a dick and like pussy. Sheep and cows are just understood...

Men and women were dismissed only AFTER learning their sexuality. Beforehand they were the country's finest. Now they're a fucking fag. Do you think a limp wrist cant fire a gun as well? That being gay means you're so busy checking out asses that you are risking lives? I spent six years with a guy who was gay. I practically lived in his world. The only difference I saw was that they dressed better and worked out more. Big fucking deal. A soldier with fashion sense is still a soldier. Show me where it says men must fuck the same way in order to be a true soldier. When your ass is on the line and you're fighting for your county thoughts of who you want to fuck is not a high priority. I'd rather have a gay man who is willing to fight for the rights of others while risking his own than a straight man in it for the education. Morals arent about what you do in your bedroom. Keep the religion out of the military!

Some militaries still won't put women in the front line - even if those women want to be there. We still have a very long way before true equality is established. It seems to me that the whole "2nd Class Citizen" still exists, even if our (and the US's) constitution bans it.

Ok, I'm here....showed up a little late but i'm here.....!

I agree with Diva. It isn't fair. I have friends that are playing for the same team so to speak that are in the military. They do there jobs just like everyone else, they work their hardest and are wondeful people. But the minute somone might find out, thier whole career could be gone. What does that have to do with the ability to protect our country or do your job? Nothing. They have a "Don't ask, Don't tell" Policy, it works fine. No one gets offended and whoevers career isn't in danger. But why should you have to hide who you are? Becuase the Big Bad Bosses of our country are scared that gays will get harrassed, beaten and (insert sarcasm) oh man, it'll bring down morale! There have been cases where servicemen find out one of there own (being a guy) is gay, they beat them, horribly, and in one case that I know of the guy died. sigh.....so much to say about the issue...

Totally. And there are many who are trying to incorporate 2nd class citizen attitudes into our constitution with the whole "marriage is only between a man and a woman" law - which is just such bullshit, I hate to even think about it because I get so angry.

What it boils down to is fear of the unknown. What we dont understand we must destroy. I cant even count how many times I've heard someone comment about how they dont understand how a man could be attracted to another man's hairy ass. WTF!?! That's like saying a hetero male is attracted to a woman's pussy. I cant imagine anyone except Pos saying the actual vagina is what makes or breaks liking someone. They just dont want to understand that there are people who love differently, yet just the same as you and I.

Most of the time, they can't see it because they won't even stop to try. *sigh* That's their right, of course. I wouldn't want to rob anyone of their desire to dislike something for personal reasons. However, it damn sure doesn't need to be written into law!! GRARGH. I get mad.

I don't agree with people getting in everyone elses business. There are millions of people in the world...so why does everyone need to stick their noses where they don't belong?? I just don't get it. Everyone should have the right to do what they want or marry who they want. If you find love you find love, whether it's with the same sex or not. I don't get so mad about the issue, I get sad. I have friends that like the same sex, and that doesn't make them any less of a person. I feel sad for them becuase they won't be able to be legally married, it's just not fair that they don't have that choice.
