When I looked at the American hostage's (http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/06/16/saudi.kidnap/index.html) picture on the news yesterday I said, "We are looking at a dead man." As horrible as that sounds, you know it's the truth. He will be executed and we will be outraged. We will call them brutal and look to the rest of the world to denounce them. The question is 'Will they?' When we point to the murdered American citizens and call for justice will they stand beside us, or point to the prison pictures and tell us that this is justice? Will they point to all the Iraqi civilians murdered and buildings in ruin and tell us to go fuck ourselves?

I hate when people point to the the fatal mistakes made and say, "You deserved that"... when it isnt 'you' at all. A country should not be blamed for individual acts. Those American citizens did not hold a gun and fire at their people, but they're being made an example. The military's decision to push it to the edge on a bluff has created a backlash that we will be feeling for years. You and I are no longer human beings. We are Americans. What our President does we will be held accountable for. The actions of a handful of soldiers are going to be retaliated on us. Anywhere we go, we are recognized by our country's actions.

People ask me where I live and I tell them California. The next response used to be, "Oh! So you live in America." Now it's "You're an American." To those people: Yes, I am. I love the country I live in and the people who occupy it. No one is perfect and no country is without it's scandals. While I am saddened by some of my countrymen's actions I am not ashamed of my country. Before you start berating me because of Bush remember that Presidents come and go. He does not represent the people, only the government. When you think of America, dont think of Bush. Think of the people who work hard to live a good life and appreciate what they have. Think of the teachers, bankers, secretaries and custodians who are trying to live a dream. While we may be faceless, we are not a bunch of mini-Bush's planning on taking over the world. We are planning barbeques, dates and family gatherings. Hate the man, dont hate the country.

My list of injustices that are just as bad-

1) Women are somehow idiots/weak/stupid/less because they were born without an appendage. I have rebuilt engines & transmissions, rewired,... done MOST of what I wasn't 'supposed' to be able to do. I launch a boat & go fishing by myself. Ain't no big thing- as a matter of fact, it's pretty easy. Sex has nothing to do with ability.

2) That I owe people money/jobs/opportunities/EVERYTHING because of things done to their race's ancesters. I believe in EQUALITY- I DON'T believe that I owe anyone anything because of something that happened WAY before I was born. My forbears came from Ireland (and used to be thought of as the 'black people' in the late 1800s /early 1900s) and never owned slaves, killed Indians, or did anything else that I know of that hurt anyone.

3) When I tell people that have never been to New York that I'm from New York, they automatically assume that New York City covers the whole state. I have to explaiin that the state is HUGE & NYC is a VERY TINY percentage of the state. Jeeze- don't people look at maps? Didn't they EVER look at a map?

4)That every citizen of this country agrees with that moron in the white house & those kissasses that kowtow to him. Doean't mean that I don't love this country- like you, Diva, I do. I just think this government is WAAAAYYY out of control. Just like I am against the war, NOT the soldiers fighting it.

There's more, but I'm REALLY tired, so think I'll go snooze after frustrating myself with a game or two.

Warza- It doesn't matter who you vote for in this country- it's the electorate that determines the winner in any election. It's just the polititicians' way of letting us think that we have a say in the election. Besides for which, Georgie Porgie didn't win the election- there was a brou-ha-ha over the vote in Florida with recounts, etc. & Georgie threw a bunch of tantrums and his opposition bowed out- even though the final count was in his (the opp.'s) favor.

USA is not a democracy. It is a republic. Had US election system been democratic (total votes, no electoral college), Bush would not have won (afaik).

1) More in line with mine.
2) More sensible, logic and intelligent (which is a well researched fact and not open to discussion)
3) Better formulated and thought through
