Also, considering that Alexander was Greek, calling him gay would be inappropriate--simply because in Greece, relationships with both men and women were considered normal. He had several wives and mistresses, as well as alleged relationships with men that stir up the homosexuality claim. Well... it was the most independent that a woman COULD be in Ancient Greece--far less "kept" and far more free and independent than wives and concubines (the latter is not the correct translation of "hetaera", btw).
