The December holidays... Love em? Hate em? Ignore em? Any reason why?
I love 'em. Mainly because of vacations. Aside from that, they suck thanks to psychotic shoppers and people who are so filled with the holiday spirit that the holiday spirit turns into a pain in the ass.

Well, I celebrate Christmas...but I hate it because of all the fuss and concentration on material things. I don't think many people remember why we truly celebrate the holiday. They're too concerned on getting that brand new DVD player while it's on sale or worried about what presents they have sitting under the tree. Not saying I don't want stuff for Christmas, but some people take this holiday to the extreme.
Besides, I guess I don't like Christmas because me and my dad got into it once over presents...he had given me money to get my mom presents. Well, I got everything that she wanted, had money left over, which my mom knew he'd sent me to buy Christmas stuff for her, so she told me what she wanted, and whatever was left, to spend on my brother, my sister-in-law, and my nephew. Well, I did just that. I spent the majority on my mom, then the remainder on 1 small thing for the other 3, plus a few things for my dad (this was when I just first started working...) Well, when I got home, my dad freaked out on me, screaming at me that Christmas was going to be tight this year and that I hadn't gotten enough stuff for my mom, so I'd ruined Christmas for her. He'd gotten me so upset that I went out to my car, got my first paycheck, and threw it at him, and told him I hoped it made up for my screw up. I then went to my room where I was bawling, locked my door, and then he started banging on my door. I started hyperventilating, telling him I didn't want to see him right then, and he broke my door down. I had never in my then, 17 years, been so scared of anyone, let alone my father. So yeah, that has pretty much screwed up Christmas's for me.

Yeah, I love Christmas. It's an excuse to be with your family. Yeah, an excuse...it would be nice if I could do it all the time, but alas, the world doesn't work that way. If there wasn't a holiday designated for it, it wouldn't happen for me.
Then again, there's just something about a snowy night, christmas lights, hot cocoa and a special someone.

There's a lot to be said, also for a warm summer's night, a cool southerly, a sun that won't set and that special someone.

It used to be a pretty tense time for me when I was a kid with the family always fighting. Saw some good fist fights at family reunions on my mom's side :o
I don't celebrate Christmas in the Christian sense but it is a good time to visit with family and friends since a lot of people have time off. It's one of two times a year that I make it home.
