Hey Everyone!

Just stumbled upon this board tonight and have spent 4 hours checking everything out .... yes I have insomnia :D

I am from the Mohawk nation, Turtle clan. I was raised by my father who is non-Aboriginal. I live in Ottawa and I work for the federal government (doesn't almost everyone in Ottawa!). My area of academic and employment concentration has been on Aboriginal justice issues.

I love to talk/type to others so you will probably see a lot of me. My love of open minded conversations with others has sometimes gotten me into trouble ;) That is also what draws me to a message board such as this.

This seems like a great board and I am looking forward to being a member.

Hello Sweet Insanity,
I'm certain you will enjoy your time here. What, just out of interest, would your favourite food be?

Does Zambuca count? :whome:

Seriously though, my favourite food..... corn soup and fry bread. I only eat this when I go to a PowWow so it's a treat when I do.

Well, good things come to those who wait. (My excuse for being late.) Welcome to the boards!!!!!!! This is a great place and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here. It can be a bit of a mad house at times, and at others it can be a sanctuary.

I look forward to seeing/reading you on the boards!!

Thanks Diva! Her name is Beanfield. I have two other cats named Jerry and Moo. But Bean is my baby.

* Sweet Insanity runs up to Diva and asks "Do you need assistance, maybe mouth to mouth?" then grins wickedly.

Unfortunately that happens alot. I know many people who have native blood but the family birth records have been destroyed/lost.

You don't need a card to tell you who you are and some people don't want to be "registered Indians" but it does help out in some ways like with schooling and medical benefits. But that's only if your reserve can afford to pay for schooling and more and more medical benefits are being cut for registered Indians in Canada.

I have Iroquois blood in me on my father's side. Have some Indian blood from my mom's side, to, but not sure what.

Iroquois blood ... hmmm do you know what nation? I ask because I'm Mohawk and my family is from Six Nations and we have distant blood relatives in New York state.

That's why the clan system is so great. Because our ancestors travelled so much it was hard to keep track of who is related to who so you weren't allowed to partner with someone from the same clan to ensure a healthy blood line. I'm Turtle clan.
