View Full Version : If You Knew...
If you could know when you were going to die but not exactly how, would you want to be told?
What if it were less than one year? Would you do something different in your life?
That would pretty much suck if I didnt know how. Id be sitting in bed the whole of the day Im going to die wondering how Im going to die. Bullet? Oversexxed? Please dear god, oversexxed.

Absolutely. I've always wanted to be prepared for death, and to amend my ways before it happens: foreknowledge would enable me to filter out the chaff from my life and concentrate on the work that I believe in. A year wouldn't really be enough for my tastes, right now, but I'd still want to know the nature and approximate timing of my demise in advance.
On the other hand, I used to have the same argument with my former employer. I'd like to prepare myself for death, I'd say: what about you? His rejoinder:
"I'm going to get someone else to do it for me."
I thought this line was his finest hour, I have to say.
Let's bring this baby back to life. Would you want to know? Would it change how you lived your life? If so, then how?

I don't want any knowledge in advance. I just want to be walking along one day and *WHAM* I'm dead. No warning, I could live with pain, because it would only be for a fraction of a second, but just really quickly.

I'd totally want to know. I'd sign up for a few more credit cards, finally head out to New York and live my dream. The only reason I'm where I'm at currently is because I'm working on my plan B before I even attempt A.
Diva in her update which started as "blank, she said she was missing motivation, I feel that way myself gasping into the black hole we call life. But know that changes you know when, life is going to end. Depending on whether it is today or 40 years from now, you would have certainty. Everyone know that eventually they will die but knowing when.
It is like a release, you know the finish, now it is up to you fill in the rest!!! Is it scary, maybe, but it also enlightening, what you do with those precious days or years is up to you. It would be time to seize the day, make goals, live life to the fullest because know you do know when you are going to die.
Say you had given up bad habits to live longer. If you were going to die in two weeks seize the day. If that day was set-in stone, you could be a risk taker, go bungy jumping, tell your bosse off. It all depends upon when.
Call it Empowerment.

Definitely.

Oh yes. I'd take that trip that I have planned after graduation right now. I'd have to drop out of school to do all that though, but hey, finishing my formal education doesn't even matter half as much as being happy before I die.
Something bothers me about this question...and I know it's a 'fun' question, but why aren't we living our days like they are our last? All you guys have some pretty good ideas of what you'd want to do or where you'd want to be. But, all this necessitates the prediction of dying on a certain date.
I know I am guilty of following lifes path and not doing what I really want, but the more I read into this question, the more I wonder if I'm living the wrong life and if I really should live up life like its was ending tomorrow. At least I'd be having fun and doing what I wanted. I mean it's not even that hard to imagine...making slight changes here and there, doing things differently, changing routine...having no routine...

I agree with you about how we should be living our lives to the fullest. While these questions are for fun, they are also meant to open our eyes to situations that we would have normally not thought of. If one post helps you in some way, then NCT is a success. :)
Now go ponder what your answer would be. :p
I think I would want to know....... and yes I would do things differently.... I try to live everyday like its my last cause it very well could be however if i knew i was dying tomorrow... I wouldnt show up at school :)
I'd like to know. I would continue to work at my job for most of it and spent the rest of my time with family and friends.

Most of us aren't living our days like they're our last because many of us already have obligations. Work, family, school...all of these are sometimes a hindrance to living a free lifestyle. It's a lot easier when you don't have to schedule your life around work, and can do it vice-versa.
It'd be great if everyone had the chance to do what they wanted. I think people would be a lot easier to get along with. I mean, I'd love to live my life as I wanted. It's never going to happen because I'd have to work my ass off to do what I wanted, and I'd be working all the time just to support my hobbies. So, in essence, I wouldn't be living like I want to because I'd be bound to a work schedule, and most people don't find work to be the least bit satisfying.

I wouldn't want to know. You see, I fear premature death. What is premature, you ask? In my opinion, before I've raised kids. When my kids have families of their own, I'll be content to die. Before then, I'd feel robbed. I fear my death which gives me an urgency about my daily life.
If I did find out, it would make little difference, ultimately. I know I'm going to die, knowing that I'm going to die sooner than I had hoped would merely be depressing. I would mull the idea over for a while, and then spend my year (or whatever) try to be at peace with myself and everything around me. I'd spend my time with those I loved, try to calm my heart so that on the day I'm going to die I can look at my loved ones and feel happy. That's a goal I have whether I die at 19 or 90.
Most people live 60 or 70 years, so it's reasonable for us to plan and live our lives accordingly.
