View Full Version : YOUR AVATAR WHY
Ok every one has an avatar why did you chose that one in particular?
My avatar is an easy one to answer.
Ask Diva
I saw this one and thought, "Mondo drama queen." Well, sorta. She was pretty and her reaction could be read a number of ways... And she wasn't a hentai chick! The guy ones are all masculine... The fems all reek of pedophilia.

Well, ummm... The avatar I have is a drawing of me that I asked a friend to do. I needed something for my staff profile at akpcep, and she did five really cool ones for me. This is one of the ones that I haven't used on the other site, but was a close second for the profile. When I discovered that I could have a larger image than most bbs's I've frequented would allow, I decided to go with it.
I'm blank but active. And I give people head-aches (not because I make them think, more because I bother them...).
No real reason for mine other than I just think he's one cool motherfucker.

Roach - apropos nothing, I seem to recall you saying that you have a Germanic background; is that correct?
Mine varies; I usually opt for either a quasi-Napoleonic image of Alexander Kerensky, or one of Laurence Olivier as Richard III; I admire the former for his political stance in 1917, and the latter for his performance in the 1955 film, which is still the best interpretation of the play I can recall seeing. At the moment I'm using a shot of Max Shreck as Count Orlock from Nosferatu, just for jolly wouldn't you.
I'm still curious about Aussie's, though: it looks a little bit like a mutated, fetishoid Pac-Man (TM)...

That is, indeed correct. My father's lineage all hails from southern Germany (as far back as the third crusade), as does my mother's with the exception of one marriage about six generations back (if memory serves). Even after the family immigrated to America in the latter part of the nineteenth century, they continued to marry those of german descent.

That's quite a profound background, Roach; enviable. I have a standing invitation to visit Auschwitz, from a correspondent in Oelnitz - Saxony. I'm sorely tempted, if only because I think everyone should visit it at least once in their life.

I was dicking around with my cam and, seeing as eye-shots are all the rage, I decided to try and get one of mine. When I did I played around with the effects to see if anything cool came of it, and I guess it did. I used to have a Dick van Dyke avatar, for reasons that can be explained best by the fact that Amaurote worships him.
Quite literally.
I've always appreciated Frank Frazetta's work and this one shows some torment with an outlet. *shrugs* I've used it in chat rooms as Merlinus. That reminds me,,,,. Another of my fav books is
"The Crystal Cave", Mary Stewart. I read it when I was young and it definately had a lot of influence on me.
ah finally a reply from usantics. Yours is an avatar Ive often wondered about. Im not sure if it was meant to be the way it is but it comes over very dark and hard to see. Thus Ive often wondered just what it was. Is there a place I can see it full sized? I gather it is fantasy artwork similar to Louis Royo but feel free to correct me if Im wrong
*Nods* Similar yes, another artist that uses like subjects would be Boris. Frazetta has done a number of cover art pieces for books and albums as well as an animated commercial for a cologne. Can you see the upraised knife in the man's hand? If not,
I'll need to adjust the ava. I truly love this composition. The serpent, coiled about the victim biding it's time, unaware that very soon the table will turn. Here's another partial shot of a Frazetta.

Frazetta also has some berserkers that are interesting. I'll try to scan a few of those so you can peruse.

I felt I'd heard the name Frazetta before, and now I know where: Stephen King uses him to help describe one of Barlowe's scenes in Salem's Lot - the one where Mark Petrie's entire family is massacred before his eyes. Thanks, Usantic.
Usantic, I looked the picture up, and the artist. He's very dark, indeed. Fantastic works. I couldn't figure out whether it was a man inside a snake or wrapped around it.
Hey NewEnglandChick, long time no see. Where is your avatar, young lady?
