If you had to give up one sense, what would it be? I'm gonna beat Amaurote to the punch line: Common sense doesn't count.

Sight
Taste
Smell
Hearing
touch

Hmmm. While it's by no means a new question, it's always one I have difficulty answering. The funny thing is, it usually winds up being different every time. Let's run down the list and see what we can come up with.

Sight
Can't give this one up. I'm a very avid reader, and while I could always learn Braille, I don't think it would be the same. Besides, the web would be very difficult to use (but not impossible, you should see some of the peripherals they have designed to allow the visually impaired to use computers... awesome). Add to that my appreciation for sculpture and pornography, and we're pretty much out of luck when it comes to giving up sight.

Touch
While the frequency with which I am actually with a woman is, well, extremely low, the thought of never again being able to enjoy a caress from the fairer sex chills me to the bone. Were it not for this, I might be able to give up the sense entirely.

Hearing
I am a music fanatic. Not being able to enjoy the velvet tunes of Poe, or the darkly humorous tones of GWAR would be a great loss indeed. In addition, I am an orator at heart. Nothing pleases me more than engaging in a discussion with another person. Sign Language is not an appropriate substitute. As much as I value my written word, the thought of only communicating my thoughts effectively in that way makes me feel impotent in some way.

Taste
I'm not a big fan of food, seeing as I don't care much for anything that my body needs to survive. That said, there are still some tastes that I would miss intensely. Sauteed mushrooms, a steak that's been singed (and nothing more), my mother's homemade apple dumplings. Can't give this one up either.

Smell
Well, being that this is all that is left, I'm going to have to take smell for $500, Alex. I would greatly miss many smells in this world. A freshly cut lawn or that spot where a woman's neck meets her shoulders. The first deep inhalation of a never before visited library, filling my nostrils with the promise of never before unlocked secrets, ripe for the taking.

Then again, I'm a pack-a-day smoker. I've been killing this sense for years.

Isn't Roach the best? *bats eyes*

Hates writing his own intro but reveals all that up there when responding to a thread. AND, *checks to make sure AM is out of earshot* I don't need the uber dictionary or thesaurus. YAY.

GWAR. Heh. They make me giggle.

When giving up a sense, I'd have to go with the sniffer too.

Two words: dolly mixtures. Don't deny yourself carnal pleasure, Lucy: dolly mixtures are up there with pear drops and never-ending gobstoppers.

I'd ditch smell in an instant. It's a highly deficient, rudimentary sense - we can only smell 2% of flowers, for instance - and, thanks to pollution, I generally find myself unable to detect the odour of anything except exhaust fumes, putrefying sheep and cowpats.

taste. all the others are soooo much more important. i'd kick this one if i had to.
