Hey everybody. Roach here.
After talking with Diva for the last few months, I decided to give in and finally join the ranks in the forum here. Some of you know me from (shameless plug) www.akpcep.com (/shameless plug) and others will likely get to know me soon enough.
Vital Stats:
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Occupation: Slacker/Freelance (read: unpaid) Writer and Game Designer (traditional games)
Perfect Woman: Angelina Jolie (but it's not her looks, that would just be a bonus. The chick's an absolute psychopath, and I'm attracted to that in a woman)
Hobbies: Anything that doesn't involve (physical) social interaction with people I don't know.
What I'm Reading Right Now: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainance by Robert M. Pirsig
What's In My mp3 Playlist Right Now: Tenacious D, Poe, Alice Cooper, The Juliana Theory, David Bowie, Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show, Meg Lee Chin
Other than this, I have no life...
Yay! Welcome to the boards, hon! *slaps him upside the head for spamming* It's a good thing I post there also, turkey.
You know half of the people here already, and the other half is just as great. I know you'll have a great time here.
You're still reading that 'Be At One With The Road' Zen book? Hell, if you want to be one with the road, try riding under a semi. Zen that! :D
YAY. I can almost die happy now.
*berly does her best white girl happy dance*
Does this mean I have no life as well?!
OH, and all that stuff that AM says down there! I wanted to say all of that too, but I knew word man would be around soon enough to say it all for me, allowing me to simply *point* and nod my head in agreement. I love this forum.
:finger: I :finger: Almost:finger: forgot:finger: to :finger: welcome:finger: Roach:finger: the :finger: appropriate:finger: way. :finger: :finger:
Now do you feel right at home, hon?

It's so good to feel loved. Thank you, Diva.
Anytime, hon. Anytime.:kissy:
By the way, I like this Avatar. It might be the best I've seen of you yet.

Welcome, Roach: You're already a member of that elect group of subscribers to NoChickTrix who have been praised in the board before their actual arrival; the other is Anton, of course, so be afraid... Your influence can be chiefly traced in the dangerously positive effect you've already had on the reading habits of several individuals in the forum, myself included. Indeed, it's thanks to your foully suasive influence that I find myself about to read a - I can barely bring myself to say the word - contemporary novel...
Your arrival is quite a coup for the boards: an Akpcep staff member who not only possesses immense literary talent, but also the self-discipline to refrain from factional infighting. It's great to have you around, Roach; long may you reign.

Always good to see you Roach.
"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainance" is an interesting read - a long time back though, but let me know what you think when your done.
What kind of games do you work on by the way - by traditional i'm assuming that you mean fairly abstract or puzzle style games like backgammon / chess / poker ?

Wow. I'm absolutely floored by Amaurote's praise. You people certainly know how to make a guy feel welcome.
As far as tradtional games go, I'm referring to pretty much anything that doesn't require the use of a monitor of some variety to play. Board games, card games, and tabletop role-playing games would fit this category.
Oooo! How about Sharades! *taps on arm* Two words. One syllabel. *tugs ear* First word sounds like 'Duck'....:cheesy:

Yeah. The people who write all of those "Dummies" books made a Charades game that would be perfect for you, Diva. :D
And I'll pass along to Domino at akpcep that you like the Avatar. She's one talented little lady.
Interesting career Roach, welcome to the boards.
Any board games that would be interesting gifts this season?
How about naked Twister?
Oh, whoops. You weren't asking me, were you.

I'm a big fan of card games, personally. Some of my favorites this season include Fluxx, Chrononauts, and Quiddler.
Fluxx (Looney Labs) is a card game of constantly changing rules. On a turn, a player will look to the current rules to determine how many cards to draw, how many cards to play, and how many cards to discard. When playing cards, the player can change the rules and even the goal of the game. Never the same twice.
Chrononauts (Looney Labs) is from the same designer as Fluxx (Andrew Looney). In this game, players are time travellers trying to either complete a mission (by collecting specific artifacts) or recreate a timeline that allows for their existence. There is a timeline that begins with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln (1874) and ends with the Columbine High School Massacre (1999). As players take their turns, they can change the course of events that will cause a ripple effect in the timeline causing paradoxes and other effects to occur. Really cool one.
Quiddler (Set Enterprises) is a word game that combines the scoring elements of Scrabble with the gameplay of gin rummy. Players will draw and discard letter cards, trying to make use of every card in their hand. With each additional hand played comes an extra card, and knowing lots of three and four letter words is more of an advantage than a broad and complex vocabulary (Sorry, Am!). This is one of the games that ended my collegiate career.
As for board games, I strongly recommend Quarto! (Gigamic), Gobblet (Blue Orange Games), Settlers of Catan (US distribution by Mayfair Games), and GIPF (GIPF Project)
I'm not going to go into full descriptions on these games here, but if you want any information on these or any traditional games, feel free to PM me. Even if you can't remember the name, I'm pretty good at figuring it out with a basic description of play.
All of the games listed above are available at www.gamedaze.com

Welcome to the board, Roach. Sorry it's so belated. I can see you are having fun. There's some great people around here. I hope you stick around and meet them all.
