NEWS (http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,31500-12258550,00.html) - A 16-year-old Irish girl looks set to receive the world's first face transplant, it has been reported.

Lena Marie Murphy suffered horrific facial injuries as a baby when her father's car exploded.

The operation, at London's Royal Free Hospital, will involve peeling away the face of a four-hour-old corpse. It will then be grafted onto Lena's face, London's Evening Standard reported.

The operation has yet to be approved by a board of ethics, headed by Falklands War veteran Simon Weston, who himself suffered appalling facial injuries during the 1982 campaign.

If given the go-ahead, it is likely to take place within months, the paper reported.

When does transplants go too far? Do you think that this is over the top?

Wow.

I'm not sure how I'd feel, knowing that my face was taken from a dead baby. That would cause some pretty heavy psychological issues.

My viewpoint on transplants: if it's okay to take a kidney, it's okay to take anything else. Whether it's ok to take a kidney.. I'm undecided.

Think of the risks involved. What if the skin rejects the girl's face? I certainly hope the parents are weighing that in their decision.
