View Full Version : President Bush Is All Class [Note Sarcasm]
"President G.W. Bush rides with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the front of his pickup truck as he drives to his ranch in Crawford, Texas."
Does anyone else see something odd about this? He's the President and yet he takes the Russian President to his ranch? What? Was he afraid rolling out the 'Red' carpet might offend him?

Diva, do you realize that these guys seldom get the chance to drive while in office? This is a shot of two men enjoying half a moment riding inna big Tonka truck. What the picture doesn't show is the fifth of Jack Black half empty on the console.

They also appear to be wearing the same coat; now that's a special relationship...
I have to admit that I've changed my mind about George Bush: I was until recently very disappointed at his accession to power, particularly since I felt that Al Gore was the superior candidate; I'm not so sure these days. He's by no means as adept a performer as Clinton, Nixon or JFK, but then again, who is? He may not be a great President, but he has one of the best Presidential teams in history, and his work after 911 has been nothing other than laudable, after all. I can't see Lieberman winning the Presidential race in 2004 - in any event, it's an unwritten US convention that no candidate without a southern accent is allowed to win the Presidential election.
Actually, I don't know if anyone here heard the translation of Vladimir Putin's Texas speech: it was a classic. Putin eulogized the President as a man "right from the heart of Texas." High praise indeed for the Texans; but what do you think the people of Connecticut make of it all?
usantic: Hon, this isn't weekend at Berney's. This is an official visit. If he wanted to show the Russian President where he lives, whip out the scrap book. I think it's an insult that he was not invited to the The White House (http://www.whitehousehistory.org/), the offical home of The President Of The United States of America. Where he lives when he's done [thank G-d] is of little importance to Vladimir Putin or any other political leader. And as for driving... you mean you wouldn't mind being driven around, using that time to catch up on something? Or, in this case, show courtesy by looking directly at your guest and having a nice conversation, if you will. Instead of him looking at the side of your face? They're not buddies, hon. This is official business and should have been treated as such. What next? A ho-down?
Ami: I forgot about that. I'm sure the people of Conneticut are getting used to it, though. He associates himself with Texas in almost every speech. But by Texas standards, he's not a Texan. He's a transplant. Spiffy.
Hey usantic, I'm gonna have to go with Diva on this one. The White House was built for that purpose. It's always been reguarded as a place where only chosen people go. A high compliment if you will. To be invited to the President's hous is a high honor. To be invided to his ranch, where he'll live afterwards? Naw, that's in insult. Remember, those are people from foreign countries. Their standards are different. What to you may be the highest compliment to them may be a statement of 'You're not good enough for the White House'. But I'm sticking with the idea of that fifth of Jack Black half empty on the console. Where's the gun rack?
Ami, Good call on the jackets. Old Eagle Eye.

Ok you guys, now i'm getting a little hot  check this out:
"At the start of three days of meetings in Washington AND Crawford, Tex., Mr. Bush told Mr. Putin today that the United States would unilaterally reduce its nuclear arsenal to 1,700 to 2,200 warheads."
This is the artical I read: (I can't figure out how to do the links like yall yet)
Bush and Putin Agree to Reduce Stockpile of Nuclear Warheads
By DAVID E. SANGER The New York Times
President Bush (news - web sites) and Russian President Vladimir V. Putin pledged to cut their nuclear stockpiles by roughly two-thirds, but differences remained on missile defenses.
Oh yeah Amaurote are you sure about the jacket?? Looks like the president's arm to me!!
:cheesy:
*nods nods nods* Its Bush's arm
If I'm correct, Putin din't seem the least bit stiff or put out on this trip to the states. In fact, he looked more relaxed than any other Russian leader (other than Yeltsin after several bottles of vodka) during his visit to the states. These two countries are knocking down decades of constrained relations. Let them have their moment driving the big diesel. Yes its nice to have some one drive you around, but as for me *sly smile* I enjoy having some raw power under my foot. ( I can hear Putin now, "When are ya gonna let me drive George?")
