You are banished to a deserted Island. They allow you to bring along four things:

1. A book
2. 1 CD [Solar powered player]
3. Personal object with sentimental value [No, Aussie, it can't be your boat]
4. For your last night you choose who you will spend it with.

What would you choose? If you can't think of one answer, it will be left up to discretion of the guard. You'd better be nice to them!

Lesseeee,

1. Christopher Moore's latest
( I just finished "Island of the Sequinned Love Nun", this guy
has a hilarious sense of humor.
2.Looks at the CD player wishing he had a CD of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"
3.My tackle box:D
4.Britanny Spears knows you've got a thing for her Aussie? If we left on the same date I'd have ta toss ya for her. (sheesh, gotta find one of those mason jars still.)

Hmmmm... Toss Aussie? I wonder how far you'd be able to toss a 6'9" Australian? How tall are you, mate?

You know how I luv da play on words. I was referring to a coin toss, but what the hey, this could be a new sport akin to dwarf tossing! You really that tall Aussie?

I seem to recall a similar thread on Monochromism.net, where, as I recall, Aussie remarked sardonically - and memorably - that he would take a fishing rod, some dope, his sheila, and a copy of The Lord of the Rings: the fishing rod, the dope and his sheila would fulfil his desire for sport, food, entertainment, relaxation and sexual congress; and The Lord of the Rings would keep his sheila busy while he went off fishing, 'cause you can't really have sheilas interfering while you fish...I just thought I'd record that one for posterity on Nochicktrix since Mono's "fall"...

On this one, I'd opt for:

(1) GK Chesterton, "Orthodoxy".

(2) Peter Gabriel, "Passion." I generally prefer Joy Division but there's no way that anyone could survive 24/7 on a desert island listening to Ian Curtis singing metaphysical lines about isolation, the meaninglessness of everyday life, existential terror and suicide; listening to soteriological ditties will do just fine.

(3) My P45: people were always giving it to me in the old days out of respect for my manifold abilities, and I've grown quite attached to it as a consequence. No-one from outside the UK will understand the subtext to this passage, but rest assured, it wasn't in the least bit funny in the first place.

(4) Liberty Ross; if she isn't available I'll settle for Sylvester McCoy. I feel a close kinship with him, and I've encountered my fair share of Daleks over the years. I shared his sense of existential disappointment when they suddenly developed the ability to levitate up staircases...

Amaurote I remember that with the Aussie Bear!!

1) War and Peace (i'll have all kind of time on my hands)

2) Pink Floyd (which one, I don't know depends on the mood I was in when I left)

3) Photo Album

4) A young stud muffin (he would be nice)

Quick question, Lucy: do you understand the meaning of Poe's "The Man of the Crowd"? That story has bugged me for years; and I'm still not sure that I really understand it.

It's a strange one, isn't it? I'm not a great fan of Poe, but that story is remarkable; I think that the old man is an embodiment of ceaseless criminality, but the implication appears to be that he is at once much more ("It is a book which does not permit itself to be read") and less, in that the narrator walks away with something approaching disgust in the final paragraph.

If anyone else here knows any better, please post to this thread -I'll be eternally grateful, because this has bothered me for years...

1. The Gunslinger by Stephen King (i'd HAVE to have a copy of The Bible in my back pocket to sneak thru. these are the only two books i read with ANY type of regularity.

2. Midnight Marauders by Tribe Called Quest.

3. the freshly removed panties of number 4.

4. any girl i know that would make me confident in her desire to service me sexually until the very second i am sent away. (all night and all day if necessary)

sorry about breakin' the rules for #1, but i'd have to have both or i'd kill myself. they just go together so well...

Is "freshly" an adverb or an adjective here, comrade? :)

If the latter, I would remind everyone that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...

1. My current read House of Leaves. It is a multi-layered story - has multi-footnoted footnotes - is incredibly entertaining and I'm not sure that all of the author's intentions could ever be realized.

2. The most difficult of all of these...*gah*!! It would have to be a compilation cd. Songs from Rob Zombie, Pinky Floyd, CD & SP, Creed, Thrice, Saves the Day, Reggie and the Full Effect, Garbage, Cure, Crystal Method, Orbital - however many I could squeeze on there. Is this cheating?

3. My cat.

4. Well, if my dating adventures were still not providing anyone with whom I'd want to spend this night with, then my answer would be Ian, my best friend.

11-24-01, 12:13AM
brother amaurote, as long as they get me thru the rest of my days on that island they can be either/or. whew...a rose indeed. a perfect, sweet, delicate, magnificent rose...whoooo.

berly baby! why wait until such an obscure, hypothetical situation to make sweet love to a nice, good friend like Ian? why not make him feel like the special boy he truly is tonite?

Dawg, you would be correct if the question had insisted that the person you spend the last evening with was soley for sex! Thing is, if there was no one I wanted to have sex with - then I'd chose to spend the time with him. Sure, we've thought about sex, and we probably would if one or the other of us were being sent away in such an obsucre situation - but we have decided that we like each other as pals right now. :)

11-24-01, 10:19PM
ah, berly. your logic is sound and i repeal my earlier statement and i dare not pry into your situation any more.

berly
11-24-01, 11:18PM
Hey, dawg - you ask anything you want. Trust me, there will be times when my logic will be anything but sound. I doubt there is any such thing as "prying" here...nobody forces me to type a response. :)

11-24-01, 11:29PM
berly, i will. i don't promise to or anything. i'm just a noseyass. ask red. but since we're on the subject...

this fellow. your best friend. what reason did he give for not wantin' to hit the skins?

For everyone else on this thread, I apologize. Please skip my posts.

Answering Dawgie, he said "things would get weird if we had sex, and I don't want that to happen. I like things the way they are right now." and I do agree. He dates, I date, we call each other in between to share good or bad news. Ever since we first met, we have had a connection - but it isn't necessarily sexual. It's very difficult to explain. The old tired girl phrase "he's like a brother to me" is - well - a damn good definition of our friendship. We finish each other's sentences, we like the same movies, food, music and authors. Everyone we know mutually has asked these exact questions you are posing. In fact, some have refused to believe that we have not played footsie at all. Let me tell you! I've never gotten so much action without actually getting any! :p

11-25-01, 12:26AM
cool. it's all good. but beware. it's only a matter of time before sex fucks its way into a relationship. look out. the sex monster has a nine foot cock and a sweet lookin' pussy just WAITIin' to fuck shit up. beware. be forewarned. it's happenin' to me as we speak. in a summation:

i met a girl a year ago and we've been friends ever since. we have a lot in common, joke around a lot, think the same for the most part, but have never fucked. i've shared my dog stories with her, she's done the same with me. we've even said the same thing about sex between us. IT WOULD BE WEIRD. BUT...

in the last 4 months i've noticed that although she's always had a nice rack, now i want to touch them. and although she's got a great ass, now i wanna slap it. what happened? she's flashed me at least once a week for the last two months and we started spankin' each other (in "jest") for a month now. i say we been kissin' each other on the cheek for 6 months now and it's just a matter of tiem before we fuck up and kiss fo' real. the progression is steady and consistent and although i don't push it or pull it, it's happenin'. look out babycakes, that shit IS comin'.

I know from experience that once you move beyond the friendship, you can never go back. Keep that in mind. I have been friends with ex's but not like when we were friends.

So, anyone else have an answer to this thread? I wanna know, damn it!

And Berly, never apologize for your posts. They're great! Words from the heart and with wit to spare!

I don't get the whole thing either. It's like you spend 3 yrs with someone everyday and then you break up and never speak to them again....??? It doesn't make any sense. I guess if it turns out that way, you weren't very good friends from the beginning. I would sure like to talk to a few X's and say hey, how's the wife and kids? Are you even ALIVE???

1. Book - The Illustrated: A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking...halfway through my second read of this book and I'm still kind of lost despite the pretty pictures showing what he's talking about...

2. CD - Live at Carnegie Hall - Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble...nothing like an amazing guitarist to make you both cry and smile...surely would help make me forget about the whole banishment stuffage...

3. Personal Object - my upright bass...'nuff said

4. Person - my ex gf...

Jennafer - I know what you mean about that...my ex gf broke up with me, moved out two days later and hasn't spoken to me since. (1 year now) I don't understand it...we we're on somewhat good terms...yes we broke up, but we didn't hate each other at the time or afterwards...kind of sucks cause she was (haven't seen in a year, so I don't really know what she's like now) a really cool person. that's why I liked her. as an added bonus she's beautiful, but that's not why I liked her. we were actually very good friends for 2 years before we even started dating...

I guess that's love and life for ya!
