I love it!!! Oh man, is this real? I think the saddest part is: She could be killed for doing that. She would be killed for doing that. Islamic law.:finger: Another reason to love my country.

The picture is from Reuters.com - Heres the caption that is with it:
"Taliban Control Crumbling; Hunt for Bin Laden Is On
A young Afghan woman shows her face in public for the first time after 5 years of Taliban law in Kabul November 14, 2001. The hard-line Islamic rule of Afghanistan's Taliban unraveled, as world leaders focused on a blueprint to restore peace and stability to a weary nation bloodied by two decades of civil war. Photo by Yannis Behrakis" end of quote
Apparently people are flying kites in Kabul again which I don't get the whole kite flying thing.
Fantastic picture! I'm still shocked. Imagine the emotions that woman must be feeling at that moment. Thanks for sharing that.

She is absolutely beautiful!!!
After 5 hours of searching for this picture after finding the broken link, I wanted to share it all with you again.
I can't imagine life outside of my cozy little country. For whatever treatment I recieve for being a female, it's nothing compared to what a lot of women recieve. Beatings, even death, for showing their arms. I have yet to learn, much less understand, the reasons for all this.
Can someone enlighten me as to the reasons for the wearing of the garment? What morality is preserved by women, and not men for wearing it?
I love this picture and it can truely stand for so many things not only in her own country but the whole world :)
The saddest part is I don't know if women around the world will ever get to feel 'liberated'. It's hard to not want to butt into other countries with our westernized ideas. But I don't think of treating women as equals as "Westernized". I think of it as "Humanitarian". Where does one draw the line?

Diva, you forget, women are evil foul bad horrible no good awful temptresses. Men are too weak to resist. Or something. Stupid people. Grr...
Self-knowlegde is always the start of wisdom.
So, by that logic, if I masturbate more then I'll be writing bestselling books within two weeks? Hot damn, sign me up for salvation!
Seriously though, this suppression of the diversity of mankind is an incredibly sickening ideology that (sadly enough) exists in all countries, among almost all cultures. Whether it's racial segregation, sexism, racial profiling, genocide, what have you, it's all related to a lack of understanding and compassion for their fellow humans.
Sure, a majority of us may be ignorant, useless drones that multiply like rabbits, but fuck, man! Everyone has the same right to exist on this earth as everyone else. Whether you're knocking off Jews, beating blacks or shooting white farmers for their land, you should step back, take a look at yourself, and wonder: "What is it that compels me to do this? Why do I perform these atrocities on completely harmless cultures of men, women and children?"
Every group or race that has persecuted others has usually used a call to virtue. Take, for example, the most infamous of the genocidal maniacs, the Nazis. They believed that they (the Aryans) were a superior race of human beings, and that the groups that they targeted (mainly Jews) were a source of their oppression as ubermenschen(sic?) So, therefore, they rallied the Germans into helping them free their oppressed culture from the unforgiving grip of their tormentors...they used a call to virtue. They make people believe that what they are doing is right, or they live their lives (intrinsically or extrinsically) by that exact same mindset. Their beliefs affect their actions, ad nauseam.
The same goes here. As Kittyroze mentioned earlier, some cultures see women as a threat or a deterrence to their daily lives, and even go so far as to believe that women are truly inferior. They place them under the chopping block of their legal or religious systems and leave them to rot. And that's bullshit.
But, anyways, I'm ranting. You get my point. It's not right. And if the woman in the previous picture had her head cracked open with a round from a machine gun a few seconds after taking that picture, she died valiantly. Nothing worse than seeing someone trodden on for just being fucking born.
Fantastic, and I mean FANTASTIC rant, Jake. I can not understand people's fear of what they do not understand. I admit to not understanding women most of the time, but that doesn't mean that I would EVER lash out at one. People should embrace learning new things. Nothing that ends in bloodshed is moral.

Governments like the Taliban control ideas to keep the people in check and by using the guise of religion people are more willing to accept it. In fact recently in Iran a university professor was sentenced to be stoned to death for saying that anyone could interpret the koran and not just appointed religious officials. Freedom is greatly restricted universally. Its illegal in Iran for men to wear shorts and taboo to wear short sleeved shirts. Women have far less freedom obviously and I'm still looking for a reason behind that one but I'm assuming that the people in charge of such countries are chauvinistic along with all of the other personality disorders that probably stem from having unlimited power over a country. Perhaps its becuase they want to isolate people as much as possible to slow the spread of ideas that could weaken their grip and it was easier with the existing laws to further isolate women.
