Have you ever settled in for a good movie and right as it starts someone's cellphone rings? What about someone who sits behind you and talks about their day? I remember sitting down for a good meal with a friend only to see a band of wild children be carted by us. They ran around like little monsters. When is enough enough for you?

Have you ever told someone to pipe down, turn the phone off or take that screaming child out of the theatre? Who has the rights?

I've done several things similar to any of those situations many a time....it's just sad that more people don't take the incentive to speak up for themselves or the majority and will let people like these sit there and think that they can run the show. I hate people who make a spectacle of themselves in situations like these (i.e. being loud, blabbing incessantly on the cell or bitching openly about things) because they seem to have this life-supporting need to be the center of attention. When someone actually says a word of dissent in these instances, it doesn't take long for the offending person to shut up and sit down.

Oh man have I ever. You talk during a good movie and you're dead. I don't mind if you whisper. I don't mind talking during the previews...but...
This evil bitchy-ho idiot skank woman was sitting behind me during the Lord of the Rings. As Gandolf led the horses down the hill she yelled..."Horses can't do that. They'd get hurt. Those poor things, I hope that's a special effect..." And she kept going. Now, this was an old woman (I could tell because of her poodle perm)...I usually am pretty respectful of older people...but this time...oooooh man. I told off an old blue haired, poodle perm, stinky, costume jewelred woman. Hee hee. IT was sooo satisfying. No one ruins my time at a movie...not with how much they cost. I even tell off children. I especially like to put people my age in their place. They end up thinking I'm way older than them.

Disclaimer: I always ask them politely first. They only get told off if they give me shit.

Two comments (well, one comment, and one show of geek bravado).

1) It was obviously a special effect, as most of the movie was, and most people realize (I thought). We actually can't get horses to run straight into a line of people (or little monsters as in this example). Alexander the Great was able to, but we don't know how.

2) I'm always annoyed when someone's phone rings in class. I've noticed three very interesting responses from the offender:

1) They quickly turn off their phone. This is the only acceptable response to me, but they should really turn it off beforehand, it bothers me.
2) They ignore it. What the hell? Do you think that we can't tell whose phone it is?
3) They pick it up and try to explain to the person why they can't talk right then. I could comment on this, but Diva might get a little mad about my use of language ;)

I get so frustrated when people talk during class. Not only do I find it absolutely disrespectful but it's also annoying. I had a guy that sat behind me in my algebra class and he talked and talked and talked about whatever was on his mind. I asked him several times if he could be quiet because I couldn't hear what was going on and he ignored me. I finally told him to shut his trap before I shut it for him and from that point forward there wasn't a problem. :)

I may sound sweet, my dear, but I can make a sailor blush... and have. Don't hold back on my account. :)

One of the reasons my friends hate going to the movies with me is that I am very outspoken. And as Kitty said, it's expensive.

My friend and I were watching the movie Twister when this guy behind us started telling his date about the day he had. He was talking about how he did his laundry, for cripes sake. I glanced back and gave my warning look. My friend begged me not to say anything... mainly because this guy was huge. His arm muscles were bigger than my head. I would not be deterred. I finally turned around and said:

Take it outside, man.
"What?"
I paid too much money to sit here and listen to what detergent you were using. If you can't wait to talk about your clean boxers, then take it outside.

He stopped and I was very proud of myself... then I turned around and noticed the two equally large guys infront of me giving him the look of death. I still say it was my persuasion.

The next time one of those cell phones rings and you want to scream, just tell them to make it vibrate. Of course if it's a one of those Nokia's, just go up and break it. My goodness it's not hard to press a button or just turn the DAMN thing off.

Now they have all sorts of songs to use as ring tones. My sister's phone went off when I took her to lunch. She waited til the last moment to pick it up. When I asked why she said, "I like to hear the song." The next time it rang I took it and turned it off. There is nothing so serious that it can't wait until after lunch.

I still jump when I have the phone on vibrate. It's funny, I'm just sitting there and then my whole leg starts shaking.

A restaurant gave us a beeper to tell us when our table was ready. I was holding it and chatting away when it went off. I let out a scream, it flew out of my hands and knocked 5 glasses down the bar before someone caught it. I was beat red and when the guy said, "Does this mean we can have your table?" I wanted to crawl underneath the bar. :whome:
