View Full Version : Hated It
It's funny how tastes change. You ever hate something only to like it later on? Food, movies, music, etc... One thing was country music. I can listen to it now, where as before I'd turn the radio off rather than hear that twang. I still hate mushrooms, though :p

Life
Yes it's true, I hated life for 48 yrs, now I dread to lose it.
All these years I was scared to live, to do well, to succeed, to fail and to be accepted.
Now I changed to be scared to die, to see any harm to my family.
Probably not the response you wanted Diva, but everything else is irrelivant
It's a great response, Glad.

i used to hate: mushrooms, olives, onions.....now i love mushrooms (most of my friends hate them tho :( ) i love onions and i like olives on somethings
Hate? Wow.
Hypocrites, mostly. Self-righteous people, overachievers, common idiots, racists, pessimists....all of those hold an equal standing in the "totally worthless shits" category.
As for food, I'll eat anything that doesn't tear my leg off first.
And country music's good. Don't let anyone tell you any different. :P
I don't give rude people the time of day, save if they start to get nasty. It's amazing how many rude people don't think they're even being rude. Sometimes they learn from being told, sometimes they just get cockier. As long as they don't screw around with anything or anyone that I care about, I can usually co-exist.

Wow! Slow down JakeD , why you hate "overachievers?" I respect people who can 'overachieve' to their or other abilities.
If we all sat back, and didn't attempt to do/achieve more than others, we would still all be living in the stone age.
It is a great belief of mine that no person ever attains very eminent success by simple doing what is required of them; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required, that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.
I overachieved, and I am proud of it.
i HATE getting up early in the morning..

No, no. You misunderstood me, Prince Valiant. I don't like extreme overachievers. Why? These people are usually strange and heartless bastards with no regard for the consequences of their actions. The overachievers I've seen could very well have been OCD cases, for all I know. It's disgusting to see someone weep over lacking two points from a perfect grade (100%) on a test.
Always working towards progress. What are we trying to attain, anyways?

Who the hell is 'Prince Valiant?' Surely not me.
Yes, I was/am a strange and heartless, but I get the job done, and I do it with honesty.
And surely not all, or indeed the majority of 'overachievers' have no regard for their actions. We are not criminals, just because one strives to be better or overachieve.
And if lacking two points, means one under achieved in that persons opinion, then good for them to have the honesty to feel they could have done better rather than the arrogance to claim they got 98%.

I just wanted to call you that. Nothing against you. Maybe you could call me Hopalong Cassidy or something from now on. Just don't say Montgomery Clift, 'cause them's fightin' words.
/me laughs heartily.
Now.
I wouldn't go so far as to call yourself strange and heartless. You get along pretty well with people, and it's easy to tell that you sympathize with them to an extent. Even doing the job with honesty cancels out the "heartless" factor, because most overachievers would stop at nothing to make sure that they come out the top dog. Their constant drive to succeed is their worst flaw, because they rend themselves to pieces trying to compete with others in the race for success.
Most of them are horribly unsociable because they feel as if they are in competition with others. Most of them are snobby, superior, boorish twats, and some of them are the most hardworking, dedicated people that you have ever seen. Unfortunately, the bad vastly outweighs the good, which I felt gave me more than enough reason to make my judgment. And then again, maybe I'm using subjective reasoning here, but I strongly feel that this is more of an objective matter.
I never called anyone a criminal, unless having no morals or remorse constitutes a criminal.
And I really can't disagree with you on that last part. Oh, wait....yeah I can.
The hypothetical situation being out of the way, many who set goals for themselves don't aim high enough in the first place. Many people have a horrible habit of feeling insufficient enough to achieve higher goals, and in that sense they are flawed. But I was referring to those who like to stack their accomplishments against others...those who were shooting for 100% just to retain bragging rights. Sure, I might have overstepped the boundary a bit with a blanket statement, but these people's intent on success doesn't give them the freedom to be loudmouthed, egotistical, self-centered braggarts. Which many overachievers are. It's just a byproduct of the innate desire to be number one.
Yet, my question from earlier still stands. With all of this clamoring to succeed....what are they working for? To waste their lives serving others in order to get a bigger piece of the pie, and then dying with a nice retirement plan and life insurance program? Material shit that's useless in the end?
That's not living.

Well we all have our own way of living JackD. Me I worked the last 35 yrs with the utmost "clamoring to succeed," without holidays or time with others.
Was it a complete waste of time? Who knows, possible, but on reflection I wouldn't change very much at all.
Material things are only shit if you don't have them, or you die without enjoying them. This sin is not, not having them JakeD, it's not appreciating them.
It's not having what you want, but wanting what you have.

Sure, most of my negative opinions towards materialism are based on the fact that I really don't have shit, but my negative opinions are based on the fact that I don't feel as if I need them in the first place. There's things that I'd rather do besides accumulate wealth. I hardly take pleasure in material things. I might be a slight Epicurean, but that's as far as my indulgence goes.
Of course the standard saying "Different strokes for different folks" still stands strong. You live your life as you want, I live mine as I want. But, is there anything that you would have preferred to have done for the last 35 years besides work tirelessly? I understand that you have a family and that you feel obligated to provide for them, which I respect. But I think that material security for your family doesn't hold a candle to moments spent with them...enjoying life as you see fit, as a family. I don't mean to step on any toes or ruffle your feathers, but this is just my opinion.
