View Full Version : Smoking Dilemma
I don't smoke, but some people I care dearly about do. In California and some other states there strict laws forbidding smoking in restaurants, bars, work places and hospitals.
Do you think that these laws are appropriate?
Do you have strict laws where you live?
What is your opinion on smoking and their regulations?

I know of people who have have gotten lung cancer just from second hand smoke. I don't want to be one of them. Besides which I can't stand the smell that smoking leaves in a place. Maryland has or at least used to have the strictest smoking regulations in the U.S. so its not really a problem for me.

I smoke cigars, and I especially enjoy one after a good dinner. That said I respect the no smoking laws, and even when I am in Calafornia, I got no issue at all.
In UK, really no law exist, trains and airoplanes are about the only no smoke areas. Restaurants/bars are usually segregated.
One interesting point. Recently South Afrika introced similar smoking bans to California, strange for a country wher over 10% are dieing of aids, with more increasing every year.
Priorities need addressed before all out smoking bans, I think.

Dude, toss me a cigar and robe. I'm so fucking done w/the cigs and I put my $ in a vase every day to show me the worth of lung cancer. It's hard, and I did good. I asked my doc for nicorette and he shoved me away. So, new pup, new smoke, hell. I'm snagging one from my dad and just keep it for back up. ;-)
I am quitting as a new year's resolution. Unfortunately, I would have been smoke-free for three weeks by now, but my surroundings over the period of New Year's didn't allow me to resist the temptation. But now, I'm going for it. Nothing to lose but my sanity, right?

I'm trying to quit as well. Smoking costs too much money, and can cost too much in terms of my health for me to consider otherwise. With any luck, I'll be free and clear by the end of january... With any luck...

Wow, I thought I was the only one who was crazy enough to even try to quit smoking this year! I totally hope all of you who are trying are succeeding (sp) I myself have promised my son i would quit this year. I got the gum and havent gotten up the nerve to try it yet. Is it weird to be afraid to quit?

No, it's not "weird" to be afraid of anything, although I think it is more an apprehension than actually afraid.
We are all afraid of the unknown, indeed most change scares us. In giving up smoking or drinking it's the apprehension or worry of both the withdrawal symptoms but worse the the thought of failing.
My advice is, if you do not try, you will never know. And a promise is a promise. Take the last drag, think of your son.
Good Luck
Thanks Glad........ and I have tryed before and failed miserably but I do feel like I am stronger now than way back then. I know I can do it. Its just a matter of actually going through the motions.
