View Full Version : All Time Favorite Album/Group
Do you remember playing an album until it broke? And then getting a new one? What's your all-time favorite album/group? [Gee, I wonder who Aussie will say].
mine was AC/DC's Back In Black. I still play that baby!

Joy Division: Substance. Failing that, Peter Gabriel's "Passion" album does the trick.
Brothers-in-Arms is a great album, but Mark Knopfler's finest hour was that bizarre hook-up he had with Chet Atkins, the late, now very late, guitarist.
Perhaps I should rephrase that more competently to make it sound less like an obscene allegation of homo-erotic necrophiliac practices. On second thoughts, nah, what the hell...
a tribe called quest's midnite marauders. that is an album above albums. it's solid shit for all time. hell yes my friends. check that shit double-time.

You have to start thinking about what your writing here Amaurote people are going to start believing your from georgia or something
Don't get me wrong, Aussie: I think Mark Knopfler is both a proficient musician and an accomplished songwriter, whereas Chet Atkins is a highly proficient musician without any real verve for writing. Having said all that, I'm slowly gravitating towards a secret, faintly masturbatory fondness for folk music, as opposed to country; my father is an erstwhile folk musician, so I grew up amongst a Spector-like melange of Fairport Convention, Dave Swarbrick and Vin Garbutt. Now I find myself actually liking them, as a direct consequence of familial conditioning, and starting to think that the "Rakes of Sollohad" is the best song ever written...
Georgia may be a good idea, after all. It has a relatively stable climate, excellent prospects for arable farming, and I believe Eduard Shevardnadze is still Head of State. I certainly hope so; I'm a big fan of his easy listening career, and I've bought all his records to date.

I just found this thread,a customer came through looking for stuff to decorate their music room with. * makes a note, aussie and Amaurote have quite the verbal banter throughout these posts *
Wellllll this is a toughie, ( can I have more than one?? ) Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here or Paul Simon's Graceland? hmmmm * reaches in pocket for his walking liberty and gives it a toss thinking that he thought Diva's spelling was correct and that Amaurote has a keen sense for geography* Piss,,,, where'd that coin land?

Many thanks, Usantic - I'll tell that to Eduard Shevardnaze next time I meet up with him in Atlanta; or possibly to Roy Barnes next time I meet up with him in T'bilisi. I have all his records, too, which is quite astonishing when you consider that I generally don't like jazz.

Incidentally, you're not having that coin back. I have a wife and twelve kids to support. They aren't my wife and my twelve kids, technically speaking, but I'm still not returning your coin: I have a lack of reputation to maintain. That last clause wasn't grammatically correct, but what's syntax to a desparately unscrupulous beggar like myself?
Gasp! *Grabs chest* Am.. Amma.. OhmiG-d! He wasn't corrreeecctt? Aaaaaaaa! Armageddon has fallen upon us! *Ducks*

I agree.... They're still playing Jimi Hendrix and Boston around here. I'd be happy with some Motley Crue, Ratt, Whitesnake....That to me is classic.
The entire collection by U2.
Those guys are like brothers, where one goes they all go. There music rocks the world and there philosphy takes no prisoners.
Ever heard of the Feelies Luc? I guess I went through my slam dancin' phase when Luc was about 3 or 4 which was Punk. I mean Sex Pistol's, Ramones kinda Punk. I moved through it and (ahem) enjoyed myself. (let's leave it at that.) Thats what I enjoy about music in general, its a river that takes you to different stops. *Nods to Amaurote* Yeah I gotta go with Floyd.
Now,,,,,,,,, where did I bury those mason jars filled with old coins?

You're asking someone who's name is Lucifer about feelings???
No shit, girl. I thought it was funny. I just slept for 2 days so I'm not all their yet. As if.....anyway. I really think they should play some 80's rock with all the long hair pretty boys and the spandex. It's like they skipped them on the radio. We either have Hendrix(which is classic)- but getting ancient. Or we have New kids sucking cock. or 25 degrees. What happened to Shout at the Devil, Or Twisted sister, or anything!!! I like the shit now, but it would be nice to remeniss to my wild teen years. I wasn't alive at Woodstock 69 so what the fuck? I did enjoy getting high to a few Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd tunes.... I guess I'll have to go buy one of those 80's rock CD's where the pick the lamest tunes. I need coffee....:finger:

all time favorite album...
Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame
This album raised the bar for all jazz-fusion after its release. The musicians on this album are of such great caliber it's hard to imagine that they were actually able to play like that...
...(sorry, not only a struggling musician, but also a huge jazz-fusion freak!)...

I was feeling spiritually low yesterday, and I sought some sort of solace in music - something that would move me, and remind me of the elegant, compassionate and fraternal aspects of life. I found it in the quietly euphonic Goon Show intrepretation of "Unchained Melody", which you can download from the Sounds section here. (http://www.fireflycafe.org/spike/media.html)
Go quickly, comrades: they need your love, and you need theirs.

hey usantic...I got to see Jean-Luc perform at the HOB in Chicago a couple weeks ago...stellar performance. he played a lot of his old ones and all of his new songs from the new album. (...too bad no one taped the concert, that would be worth paying $50 for to have a recording of. had I known that I wouldn't have been searched I would have snuck in a mini-disc recorder...)
have you heard his stuff with the second Mahavishnu Orchestra? the only album worth listening to from the second Mahavishnu Orch with JLP on it is "Visions of the Emerald Beyond" (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1155546296/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/ArtistID=MAHAVISHNU+ORCHESTRA/ITEMID=318229)
...yes, I listen (worship) other groups besides Mahavishnu Orchestra...(btw, I do own all Mahavishnu albums on both CD and vinyl...don't ask why!)
...(a sampling of the CDs in my car right now...)...
Best of Return to Forever - Chick Corea, Al DiMeola, Stanley Clarke - jazz\rock fusion
Headhunters (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1155546296/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=HANCOCK*HERBIE/itemid=399829) - Herbie Hancock's first jazz\rock fusion album...Chameleon, Watermelon Man, Sly, Vein Melter...
Miles Smiles (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1155546296/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=DAVIS*MILES/itemid=613660) - Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock....
I only wish I had been at that performance Cevarius.
I'll have to get the "Visions" album, I haven't heard it.
Hey, theres no need to explain why you listen to Mahavishnu. Good tunes in the car!!
a friend of mind recommended herbie hancock's headhunters to me the other day. i thought it'd be cool...but there are no words to describe how amazingly kickass that album is. there is no comparison. amazing. phenomenal. fantastical. magical. damn. i'm listenin' to it as i type. DAYUM.

there's something in the simplicity of Chameleon from Herbie Hancock's HeadHunters album...I've been listening to that song almost every day if not every other day for the past 6 years, and you know what? I'm not the least bit tired of that song. If I don't have music available, or the means to listen to music, I just start singing Chameleon in my head...makes me feel better sometimes too...wierd, wierd song...
it's funny you mentioned Chameleon, 'cause i first heard that song played by Maynard Ferguson. I don't know which version i like better 'cause i haven't listened to maynard in a while, but it's not got me thinkin'.

I haven't listened to Herbie since the 80's. You guys ever hear the stuff Robert Fripp did with Andy Summers?
My favourite album is either Master Of Puppets by Metallica, Reign In Blood by Slayer or Burn My Eyes by Machine Head.
