View Full Version : Define courage
What is courage to you..
And whats the greatest act of courage you have seen??
To me courage is to stand by your convictions. To stand up for someone who needs help, and to not let those who would rather see you down get to you.
The greatest act of courage is one that I would like to think about more. Although the first thing that came to mind was the men and women of 9/11. Both the ones who died and the ones who went to ground zero to dig for survivors. Then to find the bodies so that they could be buried properly. They never gave up and when they were told to stop, they refused. They continued to dig.

Courage is being honest, in all things, to all people, and even to oneself....doing what you believe is right, in the midst of suffering its concequences... facing reality without flinching.... smiling through tears.... being unafraid to be alone... and being completely happy with who you are...
The greatest act of courage I have ever seen is from a 17 yo mother of 2.5 (one on the way) she left an abusive guy she was married to since 7th grade..... no family, no friends.... she did what she had to for her children.... and at so young.
Courage to me are two things..The ability to not care for your own safety when helping a fellow human. And then the strenght to be yourself even when everyone is telling you that it isnt the thing to be..
The biggest act of courage i have yet to see is about a young teenager called John Hron..Standing up for a refugee when several neo nazi's was verbaly and physically beating him..
It ended up with John Hron being beating badly and drowned by these excuses of men.
His life ended at 14..

I agree the responses of Diva Princess and especially Andie (with his excellent but sad example)
But additionally courage can also sometimes be the ability to stay quiet and humble.
Some times it is better to run away, and fight another day.

My courage is no fear of death. Saying, "pull the trigger..." Or maybe tonight, taking a shower in a lightening storm....I was not scared? Courage is being honest to the core and letting the skeletons in the closet, be free......
You are right, Glad. Courage does not always mean fighting. The strength to turn the other cheek and be the bigger man is important too.

Courage is doing something incredibly difficult/painful/something you really don't want to when you don't have to.
Red, you still working on that one.

Courage is doing what's right (up to your own interpretation of 'right'), regardless of how you feel.
