Hey guys, I know I promised I'd have some of my creative stuff for you, but alas, I have yet to have time. I figured I'd just post my most recent (horribly altered and cut...but yeah) front page newsarticle. Hope it's at least mildly interesting...

An audience of over one hundred people crowded into SUB Ballroom B this past Thursday, with the intention of discussing America’s latest obsession with the Iraq situation.

The open forum on foreign policy in the US, hosted by the Bozeman Collective as part of their lecture series, featured Franke Wilmer, head of the Political Science department, Billy Smith, a History department professor, and Greg Morgesen, Director of the Central Asia Institute. They each addressed students and concerned Bozeman community members with their views on foreign policy, current political situations, and the potential of future military conflicts.

“Sell America on a new kind of war, give to the rich and take from the poor, and if the poor don’t like it, tell ‘em it’s the will of God.,” Keeler crooned to an amused but surprised audience. The light hearted musical opener was one of three songs written to highlight growing political concerns of US citizens.

As the likelihood of war increases, media attention on Iraq grows exponentially. According to a representative of the Bozeman Collective, they “hope through panel members to give a perspective; to spark discussion and conversation.” An open forum was held after their presentations, to allow for questions and discussion.

Audience and panel members alike articulated unease about the lack of attention focused on our internal affairs. “It is possible to disarm Iraq through inspections, but it does not divert attention from economics like a war does,” said Wilmer

Concerns were also raised about US foreign policy in general. “If it walks like an imperialist, talks like an imperialist, well, it must be an imperialist,” Morgesen stated, on the actions of America as of late.

Smith addressed the issue of what can be done about the current state of affairs. He argued, “the only thing we can do as human beings is take a moral stand. We have to take a realistic viewpoint too, and realize it may not help, but look at slavery. It worked there.”

As the discussion dwindled to an end, the audience seemed to grasp ahold of a small thread of hope. “The more you express your opinion, the more other people will feel empowered and will also speak out with you,” said Action and continued debate was encouraged, to aid in getting through these turbulent times.

A peace rally will be held Sunday, November 3rd at 2pm in the Emerson Cultural Center.

Mmm I like it. To the point and brief. Are you sure all the punctuation is correct though?

That's what my editor did to it...I unfortunately don't have a copy of what I originally had. The editor and I disagree on what proper punctuation is. Sure, I've copy edited before, but no matter. ;)

You've got a talent for writing, even if it's chopped up.

Me thinks your editor's punctuation sucks. Let me guess, did he ever try to come on to you and you gave him a cold shower? :D
