View Full Version : Alarm Bells
I was at my wharehouse loading some things into my truck a couple of days ago. It was very hot and I had worked up a pretty good sweat (tmi I know). Any way, as I was getting into my vehicle my left arm went numb. I thought,,,,,OH SHIT! I waited for that freight train to smack me but really had no other symptoms. I called my internist and they asked a multitude of questions and said it sounded like I may have pinched a nerve but to head to the ER. Great! I knew that would be fun and ruin my whole day. After waiting forever and then having a line put in, BP, and EKG, the blood results came back thumbs up. No sign of a heart attack. I felt like I had wasted every one's time including my own. The ER Doc wanted me to have a stress test the next day just to be sure. Let me tell you, those people are sadists. They try to push the mechanism to failure (and I'm not talkin' the treadmill!!!). Results were good but the Dr. prescribed an aspirin a day as a preventative measure. Now its off to the orthopedist to figure out why that nerve is wacky! $$$$$$$$
Are you feeling okay now? That is a very scary thing to happen. I'm glad the worst is over... keep us informed, big guy! :kissy:
Hey man, I hope all goes well. My brother went through the same ordeal. Scared the hell out of him. I took him to the doctor and he didn't look too good. Finally, the doctor walks in, and tells him all is well. Then he walked over to him, put his hands on his shoulders and said, "Breath." My brother is the most healthy, independent man I know. But when he thought he was ill, he crumbled. You feel so helpless when it's your health.
Keep us informed. :)
Thanks to the both of you. Yes, every thing seems okay now, but when I first felt that arm go numb it was very strange. You're right Jake, even after the doc tells ya you're ok you just want to say, "You sure?"

Sweetie, I'm glad you are ok. It's awful to relize that we are only human after all. :(
I remember being a kid and not even understanding the word death. It was just something that happened to really old people who I didn't know. My family was going to live forever and life was grand. One day I went for a walk down by the creek and found some old guy dead. He must've had a heart attack. I remember his face, it was so peaceful. Like it was okay, because he didn't look in pain.
I had to sit through the normal talk of when people die, and I remember crying my eyes out when my pop said something about him dying too. But I'll tell you one thing, it didn't sink in. You just don't understand the human frailty til you live it.
Sorry to be so morbid. But this has been on my mind. Keep us informed, Usantics. :)
You're not morbid Jake but just showing how great it is to be a kid not 'knowing' these yet but also how profoundly shocking a discovery can be. We all have to take a step up at the time on the staircase called 'life'. Some people go slow, others fly up the stairs.
I think I needed serious therapy after Bambi. Why anyone would think that it is a child's film is beyond me. My dad NEVER took me to the movies without learning who died and how. Of course he used this to his advantage to scare the crap out of me when we went to scary movies.
When Bambi's mom died, I was devistated. I had never EVER thought of death. My dad was invincible and would be there forever. My dad spent a week with me clinging to him and crying at night. I remember begging him, "Don't die, daddy." That's one of the few times I ever saw my dad cry.
We don't think about death. And when our own frailties hit like a freight train, it's hard to regain that ignorance. Walt Disney sucks.

I have always thought that my mom and dad would live forever, hell I still do but I do know that momma will go sooner than I have ever thought. My momma is suppose to be a 100 yr. old gogo dancer. I don't even want to put the fact that she has cancer and it's not getting better to the reality of my mind....
I'm sorry to hear that, Red. You know you've got the support of NCT behind you.
Usantics, you still think you could jump in that creek like you did way back when? :cheesy:
The Emergency Management director for the county where I live died yesterday of a massive heart attack. He was close to 50 years old. He was at the cemetery cleaning off his parents grave.
I just heard him on the radio just a few days ago directing personel where a storm had knocked several trees down. I just gives you a wierd feeling.
In my occupation, It may seem harsh, but I can't really think about death. It will drive you crazy. You have to see too much death as it is.
Hey Blue, i'm sorry to hear that. When things like that happen, it makes you rethink your priorities.

That's good to hear, Red. I look forward to a mother daughter performance. ;)
