ANNANOVA (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_637752.html?menu=news.weirdworld.sexlife) - A woman fired after boasting of being tied to a four-poster bed by her boyfriend at a staff training course has been awarded nearly £5,000 in compensation for unfair dismissal.

Lesley Groves, 41, of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, told colleagues at PPP Healthcare about the sex session and they complained to company bosses. She was sacked in May last year.

Mrs Groves told an employment tribunal at Ashford in Kent that her comment was "a joke" as other workmates were also talking about their sexual exploits.

The former customer care executive and mother-of-one broke down in tears as she told the tribunal that national press coverage of the earlier hearing forced her to leave a job she found after the sacking.

Mrs Groves said: "I find that I am recognised in Tunbridge Wells and as a result I feel that it is necessary for me to look for a job in London. I feel that my reputation has been greatly tarnished."

In tears, she continued: "I still feel I have an extreme lack of confidence and would find it difficult to trust any employer after what has happened to me. I will find it very difficult to get things back to normal.First of all, why were they discussing their sexual exploits in a staff meeting? I have to sit through stories of 'the cute thing my child did' conversations.

If she has such extreme lack of confidence, why was she announcing her sexual activities in public? This just reeks of quick cash scheme.

How personal do you get with your co-workers? Do you divulge 'private moments' to them? Do they to you?

The woman should have kept her personal life to herself. I'll only discuss as much as I'd want to know about my coworker with them. I certainly see no need to discuss my sexual activities.

I have found people who became insulted when I declined to discuss certain aspects of my life. That's when I realized that I had to put the limit down. No one has a 'right' to know my personal life. It's a privledge. It's also pretty boring.

Wow! I live in Tunbridge Wells. I bet Carolyn knows her.

I always talk sex to my staff, over 30 yrs, and no one has tied me up and exploited me, I am at a loss to understand why.

Come on, we all talk sexy after a few drinks, but to then tie up or rape or tease some one that bad is ridiculous.

I really wonder the intelligence of the male brain!

OK.
So if I divulge all my sexual activities, I am in luck?????

Okay, now I'm dying to know... Does Carolyn know her?

Drinks at a staff meeting? We're lucky to get Bagels or donuts. I don't quite understand your remark:

I really wonder the intelligence of the male brain! She spoke freely of being tied up by her boyfirend. although I'm very skeptical of them firing her on that alone. Especially since she was not the only one 'boasting'. Or was she?

Yeh, Carolyn new of her, who she was and where she worked. Hope the girl doesn't spill the beans on me. I always used soft rope.

I don't have staff meetings with any free food or drinks. If the girls refuse to be tied up, they can bring their own hancuffs, I mean bagels.

And yes she did it, don't you????

I don't think she was sacked for the singular event. Or else she was a crap employee anyway. In either case, if she spills the beans she has to face the consequences. Maybe she suffers from the TMI disease, one I personally dislike in other people.

Hey Gladiator, do you know the inside scoop? Was that really the only reason she was fired? I believe SysLord is on the ball with her actual reasons for termination.

Do you have any sort of rules as to firing of inopropriate staff? do you [meaning people in the UK] have to give warnings, suspensions, etc... Or can they fire someone from one persons' complaint?

The employment laws in UK are laxest in the world, that's the main reason ecery USA company's sets up offices in UK rather than other places in Europe.

Up to one year, absolutely no protection. You can be fired with one weeks notice. After a year, you can be made redundant without too much trouble, and if you have been there 2 yrs or more you get @ 2 weeks salary for each year.

Dismissal, is not so hard, you do need warnings, but it's simpler making the person redundant.

Oh, I will ask Carolyn the details

In UCLA it's pretty damn hard to fire someone after six months. Even when we have layoffs, the rule of thumb is 'first hired, last fired' so to speak. I still think they paid her off after weighing the cost of court vs settlement.
