Erin Stairs, 19, was given a suspended sentence and probation when she appeared in provincial court Monday.
She was charged last May with theft and public mischief after she arranged to have the couple's house burglarized. The robbery got out of hand when the culprits walked away with the $2,000 computer, a television, 60 compact discs, jewelry and other property.
Stairs had a number of her friends come to the house and they made it look like it was a home invasion, Cove said. She had her friends slap her to give credibility to her claim when she went to the police, he said.
Fabricating a home invasion and then allowing a police investigation to continue compounded Stairs's actions, the judge said. "This was an abuse of policing services and a squandering of time. It is overwhelming to think someone would go to this extent."What is wrong with people these days? If she can't think of a way to get his mind off of porn then I think their relationship has much bigger problems.
