Why. This is the day all the louts, hooligans, Racists, and trade unions gather to cause complete devastation to the working class people.
It's long ago stopped being the day of the worker and become the day of the 'moron'
I.E MORON Day
What kind of non-sense is that Gladiator? Of course May Day/LABOUR Day doesn't carry the same heavy symbolic weight anymore as it used to but does that mean that nobody cares anymore? That no-one wants to remember that we owe our good and cushy lives to the generations of men, women and children who suffered horribly during the rise and expansion of the industrial revolution? Do you think that everybody has forgotten about the battle the average mary and joe had to put up to gain some basic, human rights?
I am astounded by your comments my friend, especially since together with Belgium, the UK was one of the forerunners in the industrial revolution. So your history books should be well documented with this dreadful era.
Happy May Day to all those that care!

You should read more carefully my posts. I stated "It's long ago stopped being the day of the worker and become the day of the 'moron' "
What it used to encompass is fine, but what it encompasses now, is exactly what I stated. I made no criticism of the workers of the past, or the history of May Day. Its what it is now, that's deplorable to any civilized person.
In the London alone 6000 police have been drafted in to try to stop the expected riots and mayhem that happened last year. Business in London are not opening to-day, after the huge costs to them last year after the riots and destruction.
These people have got nothing to do with the Industrial Revolution, but pure revolution for the sake of it.
You should start to read the current news like Le Pens National Front views, and stop quoting history from the glorious but ended past.
You will soon be telling us that we have to believe in Christianity because Christ died for our sins.

Well I might have misjudged your tone. Of course I disagree with the hooligans who use ANY occasion to cause mayhem. And yes, I read the papers, I think the extreme right parties problem is more in the focus in Belgium, France than anywhere else. Of course the Tory party really isn't that far away from some of the ideas of the extreme radicals but then of course they have been institutionalized. And why do you want me to read Le Pen's views all of a sudden. I have known Jean-Marie Le Pen long before most people abroad even heard about him.

Thankyou.
Now!
How can you compare Le Pen to Conservatism.
Le Pen is 'Far Right' that is Fasicm and Nazism, while conservatism is Right the same as Republican.
Le Pens Vision is
1) Immigration
End illegal immigration. Deport all illegal immigrants and curtail naturalization.
Give French citizens priority for all jobs and housing; create seperate medical benefits for foreigb workers in France
2) Europe
Renounce all European accords and treaties, abandon the Euro and and return the Franc
3) Education
Rewrite textbooks to resist "Marxist Conditioning' Denounce the Holocaust
4) Society
Outlaw abortion and end official recognition of same sex unions.
For your info, Uk is about the ONLY country in Europe that has no National Front people in Government.
Austria, Denmark, italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland ALL do. And so does Belgium, and I quote Filip Dewinter (Leader of Vlaams Blok)
On Le Pen:
"I am very pleased that Le Pen scored such a victory, we are brothers in Arms."
"Only a policy of repatriation of foreigners makes sense."
These are quotes from Blok from Belgium. And you claimed Aussie and I yesterday on refugees. Well at least I am proud to say, UK does not tolerate TRASH like Le Pen or Vlaams Blok from Belgium.
We believe in democracy.
If you want more on the National front, or Le Pen, just let me know. If you want to know consevative/Republican policy , let me know.
Glad, I need no lessons on extreme right ta. And yes, I loathe the fact the people think these radicals have the right answer in our country. That's the reason I am fighting them.
But the UK would be clean of them? Now now come on. You go and talk to the (outmost) right-wingers in the Tory party and see how their ideas match up with above radicals. If I remember correctly your icon M. Thatcher was xenophobic and radical anti-EU to say the least. And she was so democratic that she needed to smother all union say in the great debacle over the UK mines in the 80's. The big difference is that these ideas are part of a publicly 'accepted' political party and that Le Pen (used) to be more honest and outspoken about his ideas. And no I am not saying that Thatcher was a fascist but she supported a class society. So where does that put her and her followers?
In Belgium, racists vote for Vlaams Blok. In the UK, they vote Tory.

I really wonder why you spout so much rubbish. You start by telling us you need no lessons, then you compare Thatcher and Consevatism to Facism.
Truly syslord, you should go sort out both yourself and your country before claiming such nonsense. If you wish me to teach or quote you Conservative or Chirac's policy, I will. But making both stupid and sweeping accusations, because you have a keyboard, and nothing to substantiate your claims is bordering on offensive.
Remember Winston Chuchill, remember he was a conservative prime minister ( 3 seperate terms) I think his qualifications, and the people that voted for him for 3 terms prove we are neither Facist or Nazi.
Indeed UK could have probably sat out the war, but no we decided to but in and help save the rest of Europe, the same as USA did.
Finally, I and @ 25M other people vote Conservative. And as much as this may shock you, I am neither Facist or Nazist.
You name one, yes one member of the British Parliament that has supported Le Pen. Go find me one quote ( I gave you two, I can send you more). You will not, because for all UK faults it is not a Far Right country. Like USA we are a democracy who tolerate others.
Go support Le pen. I again quote the radicals in YOUR country.
Filip Dewinter (Leader of Vlaams Blok)
On Le Pen:
"I am very pleased that Le Pen scored such a victory, we are brothers in Arms."
"Only a policy of repatriation of foreigners makes sense."
Now go find me some evidence these type of people are in UK Parliament.
Gladiator,
You didn't read my words properly. I clearly said that Thatcher was NOT a fascist
I do NOT support Le Pen nor Filip Dewinter
You can call me offensive and attack my country as a whole but I stick to my points. Of course no Tory would publicky supports Le Pen's views but behind doors? What did I say about Le Pen's honesty? I am sorry but you cannot always back up your opinions by facts, simply they live in the shaded area of power.
USA and UK not having to get involved in WWII? ...
