I first heard her calls in the back upstairs part of the house from the porch. When I opened the door to upstairs, that sweet face appeared & she looked down with the most obvious 'deer-in-the-headlights' look I've ever seen on a caf's face.
So there she was- terrified look on her face, wide golden eyes above the pink nose, pure white streak zig-zagging down her shiny black furred face. She was so expressive, I was immediately hooked.
"Kitty, kitty, how did you get up there?" (tail up, now, relaxing & curious, still looking down at me)
"Meow?"
Up the stairs I went to pick up the awesome, tick-tock-clock-like cat with the loud purr that turned into a soft almost-squeek. She cuddled right into me as soon as I picked her up & descended the steps. I left the door open.
She was skin & bones & full of fleas & parasites & we loved each other instantly. I defleaed, dewormed, & fattened her up, all the while watching her belly fatten up much faster than the rest of her. Six weeks later she met me at my door meowing and wanting me to follow her out to the box I'd fixed for her to see the 4 beautiful kittens she'd given birth to the previous night.
