Ok so life dosnt always go your way. Big deal try this poor bastards life on for size.
In 1812 he lost a brother who died in infancy

In 1818 he was kicked in the head by a horse and thought to be dead for a time. Later that same year his mother died of “milk sickness”

In 1828 his sister died giving birth

In 1832 he loses the election for the Illinois General Assembly. Also that year he went into business with a partner William Berry, after the store he was working at went out of business

In 1833 the store fails, leaving him badly in debt.

In 1834 on August 4,He, age 24, is elected to the Illinois General Assembly

In 1835 in January, former store partner William Berry dies, increasing his debt to $1000. On August 25, the same year Ann Rutledge, his love interest, dies from fever at age 22.

In 1836 august 1, re-elected to the Illinois Gen. Assembly. Begins courtship of Mary Owens, 28. Has an episode of severe depression in December.

In 1837 proposes marriage to Mary Owens, is turned down and the courtship ends.

In 1838 august 6, re-elected to the Illinois Gen. Assembly

In 1840 August 3, re-elected to the Illinois Gen. Assembly. In Fall, becomes engaged to Mary Todd.

In 1841 january 1, breaks off engagement with Mary Todd. Has episode of depression..

In 1842 does not seek re-election to the legislature.

In 1843 he is unsuccessful in try for the nomination for U.S. Congress.

In 1846 elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 1850 february 1, his son Edward dies after a two month illness.

In 1851 january 17, his father dies.

In 1854 re-enters politics. Elected to Illinois legislature but declines the seat in order to try to become U.S. Senator.

In 1855 does not get chosen by the Illinois legislature to be U.S. Senator.

In 1856 He failed to get vice-presidential nomination

In 1859 - Illinois legislature chooses Douglas for the U.S. Senate over him by a vote of 54 to 46.

November 6, 1860 - Abraham Lincoln is elected as 16th U.S. president and the first Republican. Receives 180 of 303 possible electoral votes and 40 percent of the popular vote.

Thanks, man. This puts it into perspective on any level. But, you left out the finale:

April 14, 1865 President Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head. He died nine hours later.

You never know when your 'purpose' in life begins. Nor do you know when it will end. The most important part is knowing when it is happening before it is over.

someone with the tenacity to go on, no matter what the consequences. thats the way it should be. i would not give up on ANYTHING until the last breath is gone from my body. if you dont have beliefs, and arent strong enough in them to fight for them, then youre not a person in my eyes
