Marnie Pearce, 40, hoped to be freed but will have to serve the rest of a three-month term. It had been reduced from six months at her first appeal. She will be deported on her release and fears she will lose custody of her two young children.
Amnesty International UK Campaigns Director Tim Hancock said: "Marnie Pearce should not be in prison. The sex lives of consenting adults shouldn't be a criminal matter in the first place. Marnie should be immediately and unconditionally released.

Oh yay. Another ‘I call bullshit’ rant. Some chick that may or may not have committed adultery ends up in jail. Considering some of the decisions coming out of Dubai I am not totally convinced. Then the Amnesty International guy throws in his “The sex lives of consenting adults shouldn't be a criminal matter in the first place and she needs to be let go” comment and makes my eye twitch. The fact that it IS a criminal matter over there means she needs to obey by the laws of the land. At the very least he should respect that. Tossing the comment in there is like he’s saying ‘so what if she did?’. To me marriage is legal binding contract at the very least. It’s something that says you will agree to these rules. The problem is… the ‘or else’ is kind of shitty. There is no recourse for breaking that contract except for divorce. No “A” slapped is on the forehead, no public humiliation for the average schmuck who cheats on their spouse. Maybe that’s why so many people treat marriage as if it’s a high school romance. The morals that should be there aren’t. The devastation is only one sided. While tossing the adulterer in prison isn’t my idea of justice there should be SOMETHING else. Plus… if she DID commit adultery then why shouldn’t it play into the custody battle? That shows a lack of morals. A lack of decency. If someone commits an immoral act then I don’t see why it shouldn’t be used as one of the many factors in a custody battle. I’m not saying it’s the main one, but it should be pertinent. Maybe people need to stop thinking about this being an issue between adults and start thinking about how it affects the kids. Think about this before you have them. Hell, think about this before you marry. I’m not throwing her to the wolves to make a point. I’m using the statement made on her behalf to make it.
As far as Mrs. Pearce: I can’t imagine leaving the United States to live in a country where my rights were secondary to my gender. I feel for her situation and it’s sad that she is going to have to now leave a country she chose as her home and fight for her children. If there’s one lesson I learned the hard way is that people change once the relationship is over. Add children to the mix and there’s no way in hell I’d still be in that country. 50/50 hindsight from someone not involved.
