What The Hell Kind Of News Is This?!?!
I was flipping through the news sites when I came across an article titled, "Possible Attack Against US Tuesday, FBI Says". I'm looking for the punch line when I realize that they're serious. First of all, this should have been a bit more public, don' you think? Or not...
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A terror attack on the United States or against US interests in Yemen may be possible as early as Tuesday in a plot believed to be led by a Saudi-born Yemeni man, the FBI (news - web sites) said on Monday.
In one of the most specific alerts about possible attacks that the FBI has issued since the Sept. 11 strikes on America, the bureau said "recent information indicates a planned attack may occur in the United States or against US interests in the country of Yemen on or about February 12, 2002."
While mentioning the names and nationalities of suspects, the alert did not specify possible targets. The FBI said one or more operatives may be involved in the attack and named a possible suspected ringleader Fawaz Yahya al-Rabeei, a Yemeni man who also has a number of aliases.
The FBI alert also named 16 possible associates of al-Rabeei, saying most of them were Yemeni nationals. "Al-Rabeei is believed to be a Yemeni national born in Saudi Arabia in 1979," the FBI said.
The alert listed more than a dozen aliases for al-Rabeei including "Furqan" and said he may be traveling on a Yemeni passport. His current whereabouts are unknown, the statement said. "Law enforcement officers are requested to stop and detain these individuals and to contact the FBI for further guidance," the FBI said.
The FBI has issued several alerts since the September attacks, which killed thousands of people and have been blamed on Saudi-born Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda guerrilla network. No previous FBI alerts have specified the nationalities or names of suspects plotting possible attacks.
The FBI has been criticized for raising alarm by issuing warnings perceived not to be specific enough to help Americans or law enforcement officers actually be on alert.
I was sitting here, stunned. What purpose is there to put out a warning without a directive? If you aren't even going to tell the public where or at least what to look out for... then why cause this panic for nothing? And where the hell is the President? Doesn't he have anything to say to the American people that he swore to protect? Where's Mighty Mouse when you really need him?
