I can't believe how long I've waited for this day. When Bush stole the first election I wept for the crime. When he won the second time I wept for our country. 9/11 may have changed us... but he destroyed us. The world turned to us and he pushed them away. Instead of embracing possible new allies and strengthening old ones he made us a body of one. Bush made statements we didn't stand for and decisions we did not back. When I say Bush I also mean his administration. The people under him who helped to fuck up this country (as well as others) all in the name of greed.

Last night Jake and I sat and watched MSNBC's wrap up of all that was political and Bush's final approval rating (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/16/opinion/polls/main4728399.shtml?tag=topHome;topStories) flashed upon the screen. Twenty-two percent. I yelled "Yes!" and threw my fist in the air. It was a small token of "FUCK YOU" that the country could give a man who left them bloodied and crippled on the side of the road after fist fucking them for eight years. I wanted him to leave with his tail between his legs and his head to the ground, but knew that would never happen. He's in a dream world that only a select group of 'Yes men' enter. They paint the walls white and tell him everything's going peachy while cutting up pretzels for him to nibble on.

Today we can finally say, "It's over". That administration was a cancer to our country. It spread through the bowels and fed off of the fears and hatred that we have been trying so hard to kill. People went a step back on the evolutionary scale. Racism, intolerance, hatred, fear... the ingredients of Bush's legacy. Fear those that are different at all costs. Only when the body count rose were we finally able to snap free of his grip and start to move away. Those who cheered with him now stepped away. Those who wept because of him now stood up and shouted to the heavens about his evils.

Bush also helped to wound the Republican party. At the height of his reign they stomped around like bullies and raged about how anything else was evil while calling that 'conservative thinking'. Now they are scattered about, trying to regroup and find themselves again. Hopefully when they do their 'conservative' values will have shed some of the bile that helped to make this last election hell.

In a few hours we will have a new President. White/black/striped with a tail... it doesn't matter. Bush is gone and we can finally start to move forward. The fact that we get Obama is a bonus. He should be a good President, even if to just restore our standing and help to move a nation forward and hopefully mend the ties that have held us back from joining the rest of the world. We welcome the Obama administration with open arms and a hope that he will be the man we NEED him to be.

Unfortunately, we're going to be dealing with this legacy for a while. I can't believe some of the shit I've read from some people today.

Exactly. Some of this stuff isn't opinions, it's borderline psychotic invective. I mean, I was admittedly all doom and gloom when Bush was re-elected, but I didn't wish the guy harm (that I can recall).

It's a good day in America. I actually woke up feeling optimistic for a change. I'm not even going to pay attention to the naysayers.I'll be my usual grouchy self tomorrow. I'm going to enjoy today.

Mom & I were at the hospital for her breathing test (82%) & the tech took us to the meeting room where they had a large screen projector set up & we watched it until after Obama's speech was done. I gotta admit, there were tears in my eyes.

NO MORE BUSH!!!!!!!!

The one outstanding trait Bush had that no-one really gives him proper credit for - his one really incredible claim to an oustanding attribute - never really gets the respect it deserves. I mean of course his complete absence of self-knowledge, his truly supreme ignorance of his own prejudice, vice, triviality and cynicism, his inability to admit mistakes that were more than superficial - his last press conference was something they should show trainee correctional psychologists in Offender Management classes. I mean, Nixon was self-deluding, but he had some kind of evil grandeur to go with it, and we know there were moments (you can hear them on tape) where he revelled in his own unscrupulousness. You could even empathize a bit, put on an evil cackle and imagine yourself into his Bad King shoes. The Boy Prince in comparison was a complete nullity - came in knowing nothing, not even himself, and went out the same way. I felt a bit sorry for him today; in the end, that's all you really can feel for him - sorry you got elected, chap; sorry you showed yourself and your country up; sorry it took so long to get rid of you; sorry you had to see yourself replaced by such an eminently superior candidate; sorry above all that through all the chaos and misery you stoked, perpetrated and presided over, you learned absolutely nothing.

I expect his memoirs to be in pop-up book format. Roll on the new presidency, and let's hope the country remembers that this apocalyptic recession began on the last guy's watch.

Regardless of what Bush did or didnt do, people should show respect. He served us 8 years and I believe "everything" is not his fault. I gotta look up to anyone who takes on the role of President.

I saw many horrible things on the internet about the Inauguration. Goes to show that those God-fearin' people are having a hard time keeping their mouths positive.

People suck.

I'm glad that everything went well today though. I was honestly anticipating some redneck backwoods zealot attempting to try to be a fucked version of a hero.

Good Luck BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!!!

Respect is something earned, not an hereditary entitlement.
