Can I Have A 'Do-Over'? Ummm... From Age 3 On
I looked at my baby book last night and read all of the different 'challenges' I have overcome. My first step, first word, when I rolled over... I'm surprised my dad didn't start with 'First breath'. Each time I accomplished something, I practically got a standing ovation. I was a daddy's girl, to say the least. Riding without the training wheels on almost had my dad doing 'The Wave'. I remember his face, so full of pride. Life was good. Then I grew up. Now, you practically have to bribe some people to praise you. Not your friends, they're always around to cheer you on. Of course, they're also waiting for you to fuck up so that they can remind you of this every time a crowd gathers. The work force has changed dramatically since I started *cough* years ago. It went from 'The customer is always right' to 'Teamwork' to what we have now: One employee can do the work of three'... also known as 'Fuck the employees, we want money'.
Everyone has a dream. And everyone dreams. What do you need to live a happy life? What would be your goal to consider yourself successful? My friend who died wanted to help people. She worked with cancer patients all day long. I'd watch her quietly put down the phone after learning that one of her patients had lost their fight with cancer. The next call would be to push a new patients' treatment up. She had knick-knacks all around her office from grateful patients. If you were to ask her what she was most proud of, it wouldn't be the Humanitarian Awards or Achieving Excellence employee awards. It would be the clay cardholder that a child had made for her that is cancer free to this day. Or the paper weight with her name on it from another patient. Those were treasures. The awards were placed out of respect for the people who nominated her. But you'll never catch her pointing them out. They stay on the wall, behind the open door.
What do you want out of life? {Love, Money, Power or Fame} which would you choose? That's the question for the day in our forum. Here's the tricky part. You need to think very carefully about your answer. With each one there is a price. And with each one there is many ways you can achieve that goal. I'll get back to you on your 'fate'.
