View Full Version : Early Thanksgiving Wish

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Good food, good conversation and no pressure regarding presents. Usually we are packing to leave for Jake's folks house but this year was just too expensive. Instead we are spending it together and Jake is doing the cooking. I'm sad that we're not going to see his family but the idea of spending it together is just as nice.

This year we have a lot to be thankful for. Not money or assets, but the things that matter. The people we love and that love us. The people we care about. We should be thankful for our health and that we are able to sit down to a meal with a roof over our heads and a job to gripe about. We should be thankful for a country that is slowly moving back in step with the rest of the world and a future that looks a lot brighter than it did one year ago. While our economy is failing and businesses are suffering we have been going down this road for quite some time. Now we have a moment of clarity. We know what must be done to move in a different direction. A BETTER direction. With that clarity comes some hard choices. But understanding the options and knowing that we will soon have a new Administration who will make those options work is something to be thankful for in itself.

Our country still needs to work on so many things. Prop H8 was something that never should have passed. But in doing so it actually helped the cause. People are rallying together and the understanding of what it truly means is moving to give gays and lesbians more than a simple defeat would have. Be thankful for what we have and be hopeful for what is to come. That is my wish to you.

Well the time together is definately what counts!

So Jake, what ya makin'? We are doing the dinner at my MiL's and I am making Roasted Potatos with Bacon, Romano Cheese, and Parsley. I am also probably going to do a homemade Baileys Irish Cream Cheese cake.

As for the Prop passing. yeah it sucks ass juice through a straw. But it is good that it opened people's eyes. Our equivalent in Fl. passed and no one seems to care... Too many fuckin' OLD Close minded people here I guess.

Turkey breast roast, dressing, baked macaroni and cheese, possibly steamed broccoli, sweet potato pie, pecan pie. The pies will be interesting, it's the first time in a loooong time I've made them (almost) from scratch. I cheated and bought the premade pie crusts.

The crusts are always the most difficult part for most people.

Well, it might be just Mom & me for dinner tomorrow. I talked to my DIL & she said that the youngest was sick all day today- fever & upchucking- so they might not come down tomorrow. I told her that as much as I'd LOVE to see them, if she's not 100% tomorrow, don't come down. I already have an 89 year old w/pneumonia- she DOESN'T need anything else. She's pretty weak, too. It's better, but being as sick as she was, it's going to take a lot of time to recover from this. I'm going to start taking her out for short walks. Anyway, if they DO make it down, I'm cooking, & it'll be the whole turkey thang. I'll get mom to sit still as much as possible, but that's not easy to do sometimes.

Anyhow, Happy Thanksgiving. The indians shoulda let the white devils starve. They didn't know what they were getting into.

Diva, altogether a lovely, lovely Thanksgiving message, WOW!
I would surely give thanks if you were appointed as Obama's speech writer!!!

.... I cheated and bought the pre-made pie crusts.

JakeD, Great menu, sounds delicious! If I were near, I would drop by and toss a few kernels of Indian corn at your kitchen window, believing that you would hasten to pass me a plate out the back door! I only regret that you bought pre-made crusts. Now I can't look forward to Diva posting any photos of you covered in flour!

Today, Julie Andrews and hubby Blake Edwards are dropping by, via DVD, to entertain me with Victor/Victoria (1982). That film is such an uplifting anecdote to Prop 8!
(Plus, it doesn't hurt that I harbor a crush on Alex Karras-- with that irresistible lug of a face and that soft-spoken tone of his.)

Well, if you were raised in the South, in the Jim Crow era, and perchance some hobo or itinerant black man knocked at your kitchen door and offered to rake your yard, you might agree. If and when he finished the job, he would likely take a bit of repose on your back stoop. In turn, you would be required to notice and pass him a plate of food out the back door (never the front-- it would break an unwritten protocol of class hierarchy).

But...
if you're generally into the whole S&M perspective of the era, we'll fly with that-- just smile when you crack that whip, buddy!

No, I know what the deal is regarding backdoor men, it was just a cheap joke on behalf of Willie Dixon and I'm a douchebag for making it :(

If only those Indians had had the foresight to introduce those Puritan killjoys to peyote instead of maize, the Republican Party would never have come into existence! Alas, never would have corn-dogs!
