View Full Version : Rock the Vote, Baby!

Today is the day Americans make a choice. It’s the day we look into our hearts and our minds and choose the next President of the United States. People joke about flipping coins, randomly punching or even writing in cartoon characters. Chuckle all you want, but this is one of the most important things you do as American citizens. We have a right that many people in other countries die for. People who fought to simply choose who leads them. We are spoiled. We take for granted a right that others only dream of having. Instead of voting we make excuses. “I got up late”, “the line was too long”, “I needed to start dinner”. One day out of the year is not going to kill you to get your ass out of bed and stand in line. One day out of the year is not going to kill you to stand in line and make dinner a little later. It’s not just our right. It’s our duty.

They said to be prepared to wait. Wear comfortable shoes and expect long lines. It’s not too much to ask to be a part in the process of electing the next President. It’s not too much to ask to be a part in the process of voting for (or against) propositions that will directly affect you financially. Your choices today will impact both your life and the lives of your family. They will affect how we live, the rights of our friends and what taxes we will pay (and our children). Better roadways or schools? Higher taxes. You have something on the ballot for gay marriage? It affects people you know. People you talk to. People you are related to. Read the pros and cons. Get the information. Rock the vote, baby.

Got there at 7:20 in morning and outside line was about 300 people long ( with still about 100 people inside to get to polls—and one of the local representitavies was there—but didn’t get picture of him, as didn’t really realize it was him as he was just standing off to side--

The 3 pics are the long lines—but by time I left at 9:45 am or so the line outside were dramatically reduced- but still around 100 people or so

In pic where you can see the building I am in line of former pic that wraps along driveway to edge of building and then curves back to entrance—lots of umbrellas

reason for editing--i'm a dumbass
sorry--- I didn't think my phone/camera had big pics--

Can we all say OBAMA!!!

Mom & I voted- stood on line about 15 minutes then had to go on the other line as Mom told me we were in the wrong district, but we got to vote about 5 minutes after that anyway.

I had no waiting line to vote and neither did my husband. Stupid us, I had my address changed last year to our apartment address and I spent longer looking for the damn fire department to go vote than it actually took to vote. My husband didn't change his and he had to vote at this church they always vote at. Neither place was busy at all, more campaigners on the opposite side of the road than inside. Of course, we waited until 10 and 1130 to vote (I was the later one b/c like I said, I had to drive all over God's creation to find the damn place!)

After my husband voted, we went and got some Obamabiscuits--guess who we voted for!

according to local news--we had more absette ballots this year than all ballots last election--
so how soon will the re-counts and all start?
we had one primary that was won by 1 VOTE--so for those who don't hthnk their vote counts -- nenenene nannana

Sometimes one vote is all that counts.

HONDO — The success or failure of Tuesday’s referendum on confirming the creation of the Medina County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 rests entirely on one voter, as do the hopes of five contenders for five seats as the district board of directors.

Thought for today:

I wonder how many people have made those excuses on Election Day, yet come Black Friday, stand in line for 3 hours before dawn just to save 40% off the price of some Gotta-Have-it consumer product????

Hmmmm, in some places where voting is unheard of, people routinely stand in line 3+ hours just to get hold of a bowl of grain! 'Nuff said.

Obama Rocks!!!

YO!!! The O's have it!!!

Thanks, I felt a warm sensation in my lap and realized I just puked blood over the horrifying truth of your Black Friday comparison.

Also, the latter part of what you said. I seriously wanted to headbutt that woman behind us that kept sighing over a 20-30 minute wait.

OMG! That is so true. People have no qualms about standing in line for an X-Box or iPhone... but they will bitch about having to 'waste' their time in line to vote. The woman behind us who did the preemptive nag was just ridiculous. I gave her a few cold stars and then the ultimate turning my back to her before she shut up. Sometimes words cut deep... but other times body movement is the ultimate 'to the jugular' effect without so much as a whisper.
