And two steps back. It just kills me that there's a measure on the ballot to ban gay marriage in California. I've always prided myself in living in a forward thinking state. Oh sure, there's always going to be pockets of bible thumpers. But for the most part this is a liberal state. So why is there a ballot to take away the rights of citizens based on their sexual preference? How did they get enough votes to even put that shit on the books? It puzzles me and infuriates me. I don't give a flying fuck how you 'feel' about gays or gay marriage. This isn't some sort of therapy session. It's about rights. Who are we to say what is 'morally right'? Who are we to judge others? I am angry that this measure is even there. It's like a dirty little secret that was whispered to me. I just want to stick my fingers in my ears and hope that it goes away. That is... after I vote NO ON 8. Say it with me:

Interestingly enough (I forgot to tell you this), the measure is receiving quite a bit of funding from Mormon and evangelical Christian groups outside of CA. Pretty sad that they have no kit in the argument and yet still want to restrict the basic rights of others that they'll probably never even meet. So thanks to a coalition of fundie assholes in San Diego who have this legion of hateful "Christians" behind them, everyone else has to deal with the fallout.

I'll be glad when these backwards idiots are marginalized like they so deeply deserve.

You know it doesn't surprise me in the least that they are are supporting / lobbying to pass this in a state that doesn't even directly affect them. They think they are right and that no one else matters.
