A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard
Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed "Ode to the Motherland" as China's flag was paraded Friday into Beijing's National Stadium, was not singing at all.
Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough.
Milli Vanilli lives! *rolls eyes* I feel sorry for the little girl who was lip syncing. Basically they said she was only good enough to be a Barbie. I can understand the backlash from this. To say that someone who is talented is not worthy of being shown because of her looks is shameful. Yet here we are, a world where beauty rules. How many magazines do you pick up that have ‘plain Janes’ on them? How many starring roles are filled by actors and actresses with imperfections? Even those who aren’t gorgeous still get the ‘I think he’s cute’ comments. Start asking people about different celebrities and see how many responses start off about their looks. Talent be damned… as long as they have a nice ass. This shouldn’t be a ‘shameful moment for China’. This should be a wakeup call to the rest of the world. I just hope the real singer gets the recognition that she deserves. Let the little Barbie doll be a model. She’s already on her way.
