Medical examinations of former terror suspects held by US troops showed proof of physical and psychological torture, a US-based human rights group said.

The Physicians for Human Rights group cited beatings, sexual abuse, electric shock, isolation and forced nakedness.

It said the 11 men - all freed without charge from US military jails in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay - were suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

I wonder how many stations showed this article. I wonder how many news papers even printed a blip of the findings. War is hell... and right now we're Satan's minions. Before you start attacking me, what if it were American soldiers? What if it were 'our boys' that were tortured and abused? Change the nationality and see how you'd react to the findings. THEN come to me with how you really feel.

There are laws in place so that atrocities like this don't happen. The Geneva Convention isn't some sort of party where you wear "Hi my name is ..." tags and eat chips while making small talk. It's also not some sort of 'suggestion' that we can ignore whenever it suits us. Its something that we, members of the human fucking race, need to respect and follow. You want to be civilized? It starts right there. Those men's lives will never be the same. They will forever bear the scars that we gave them and we need to acknowledge these wrongs and prevent them from continuing to happen. I'd like to say it will start in November... but it needs to start before then. Read the story and share what happened with people around you. Talk like a true American, not some patriotic dipshit that thinks we own the world and the rules start and end with our boarders.

The worst part is, this is the kind of shit that's going to make the "enemies" (that our government's been shilling to us for the past eight years) really, really hate us. Then as soon as we change our bullshit policy of exporting democracy, someone will want revenge, they'll hit us, and then all of the lizard brains who claim that Bush is doing such a great job in the War On Terruh will point and yell "LOOK! It's a fucking DEMOCRAT in office/DEMOCRATIC Congress and they emboldened our enemies!" Then people will start wringing their hands and pissing their pants again, and we'll be right back where we started. Thanks a lot, you corrupt assholes.

I see two sides.

What the hell have they done to our people? I mean "one good turn deserves another"... and so forth. I read reports on our guys who were captured, tortured, raped, starved...

War is a ugly monster. It makes humans turn into some sort of primordial beast and do things that in "society" are considered horrible... but because it is all "so far away" and not happening on the "home front" we think in the back of our minds that it's a little bit justified.

However, that little blurb right there makes us no better than the "heathens" we are fighting.

I see this as we are Rome... and we will implode one day. From the inside out, our own government will destroy us.

And we will scatter.

An eye for an eye is one thing... but remember if you call something a 'monster' and then do the same thing they did you are a monster too. Personally I don't see how torturing someone is okay. When you say 'they' you need to make damn sure you're talking about someone who actually did the act you're accusing them of. Wouldn't you want the same thing to happen if it were you? The biggest key point here is that they were never charged with any crime. These men were tortured, raped and treated inhumanely for no reason whatsoever. They were held against their will and never told why. They were not given any counsel, any help.

Again, there are rules of war that were put in place so these things did NOT happen. I know it's words when the war is in place... but at the very least we should be held accountable for our crimes just as we expect other countries to be held accountable for theirs.

I want terrorists rounded up and executed. But only if it can be proven for a FACT that they are terrorists. Now this guy I just read about is racist, sexist and very possibly FUCKING INSANE. And he has a nation wide radio show. He makes Rush Limbaugh seem reasonable.

I find the treatment of those non-criminals unspeakable. But in the long view it just might be a "trial run" (a test, as it were, for how much can be gotten away with) for what may take place here on home grounds. One day I am afraid many of us might find ourselves and neighbors in "Great American Concentration Camps" managed by the giant entity currently known as FEMA, with the blessings of Homeland Security who will turn anything into a "suspicious act of terrorism" to justify the roundup (Could make Sen. Joe McCarthy look like a wimp). All of this made possible by the holes being legislated (read: shot) through the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the tunneling beneath the checks and balances that are supposed to exist among the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.
To round up the "terrorists," one might need to start in DC. After all, those glorious "We the People, for the People and by the People" documents that the founding fathers gave us did make provisions for the citizenry to resist any Federal power that got out of hand. They remembered those brave Minutemen (or were they "terrorists, too?) who had just rid the Colonies of the Tyranny of British Rule?
OOPS!!! Those holes being shot through those precious documents are fast eroding that possibility. Think about it.
