I'm stuck on working out, and while I'm still fixing the cardio/fatloss aspect, within the past week I have: a) chased down a bus for two blocks due to being late for class, and b) pushed a woman's Mercedes SUV out of heavy traffic (today, on a slight incline with said woman inside) all by myself.

My co-workers give me shit about being something of a gym rat, but it feels good to be able to do these things.

What do you do, and why? What do you expect to get out of your effort?

I call upon the powers of the damned to ressurect this post which must have been tearing a hole in JakeD's soul by the lack of even a single reply. :(

I go to the gym all the time too, I dont know why people feel inclined to criticize that. These people who call you a gym rat, do they get winded walking from the elevator to the front door?

My goals for the gym are mostly to limit the effects of my hyperhidrosis so I can do my job well again. I also work out to make myself look the way I want while eating whatever I want, in fact, I get to eat more than I want in order to keep my muscles growing. mmmmm ever eat an entire 10 lb pot roast to yourself over two days? I have.

I set foot in gyms less often than I do churches. In fact, I haven't ever been in one, with the exception of elementary and high school gym classes.

i used to work out with a personal trainer, but he just had unrealistic expectations for me. so i started doing my workouts alone.

i work the graveyard shift in a psych hospital and i've had to take down raging psychos on my own. that's effort on its own.

Most personal trainers are a waste of money beyond 2 or 3 sessions, especially since people at gyms are usually more than eager to discuss their thoughts on weight lifting theory.

yeah i've found that out. but since my brothers who are heavily into weight lifting and martial arts, one of them is in training to compete in the UFC tournaments, i've kinda had to wing this on my own

Getting my local WalMart to start their employees on CPR training. It's now stuck in the local store- it's been OKd all the way from headquarters in Arkansas through the district manager (with me PUSHING all the way) & now it seems like I'm going to have to doo the footwork & make up a plan, get training dates, etc. together, since the store manager is about as motivated to get this done as the district manager was. Mebbe another call to Arkansas is in order??

I expect to get the satisfaction of having someone I've worked with in the store coming up to me & telling me that because of my efforts to get this training done, someone's life was saved. That's ALL I want from it.
