Five Good Samaritans stopped a rape in progress in a south Salem neighborhood, according to police.
Officers said a 22-year-old woman on crutches was walking near the intersection of Liberty and Boone streets southeast just before 1 a.m. Saturday when she was attacked and assaulted by 37-year-old Paul Landingham.
...A car with five people was driving by, saw what was happening and came to the woman's rescue. Three men pulled Landingham off the woman and held him until police arrived at the scene.
Held him? They kicked that moron's ass (http://www.nochicktrix.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=8291). Not that I'm complaining... mind you. When you see a rape in progress there's no 'allegedly' about it. considering it was Salem that guy is lucky to be alive. they burned witches there. :p I don't feel sorry for him at all. You fuck with Karma... it fucks back.
The civilized part of me says that justice should not be served by random passers-by, even with such horrible circumstances. The other part of me is telling the civilized part to shove it and feels that this is one way he *might* learn his lesson. It's hard to say that violent crimes are deterred by prison. Especially sexual ones. Take the potential victims out of the equation and the perp is not going to act out their aggression. That's just fine and dandy... until they're let out. What then? Label them and send them on their way? How many sex offenders DON'T register when they move? The time is served, but the anger is still there. Prison doesn't work on issues.
I'm sure I'll get a bit of Karma my way for saying it... but the guy got what was coming to him.
EDIT: So it's not Salem Oregon that burned the witches. Leave it to me to fuck that up.
