Five Good Samaritans stopped a rape in progress in a south Salem neighborhood, according to police.

Officers said a 22-year-old woman on crutches was walking near the intersection of Liberty and Boone streets southeast just before 1 a.m. Saturday when she was attacked and assaulted by 37-year-old Paul Landingham.

...A car with five people was driving by, saw what was happening and came to the woman's rescue. Three men pulled Landingham off the woman and held him until police arrived at the scene.

Held him? They kicked that moron's ass (http://www.nochicktrix.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=8291). Not that I'm complaining... mind you. When you see a rape in progress there's no 'allegedly' about it. considering it was Salem that guy is lucky to be alive. they burned witches there. :p I don't feel sorry for him at all. You fuck with Karma... it fucks back.

The civilized part of me says that justice should not be served by random passers-by, even with such horrible circumstances. The other part of me is telling the civilized part to shove it and feels that this is one way he *might* learn his lesson. It's hard to say that violent crimes are deterred by prison. Especially sexual ones. Take the potential victims out of the equation and the perp is not going to act out their aggression. That's just fine and dandy... until they're let out. What then? Label them and send them on their way? How many sex offenders DON'T register when they move? The time is served, but the anger is still there. Prison doesn't work on issues.

I'm sure I'll get a bit of Karma my way for saying it... but the guy got what was coming to him.

EDIT: So it's not Salem Oregon that burned the witches. Leave it to me to fuck that up.

Unless they castrated him, he didn't get no where near what he deserved. He just got a minor slapping around.

I think the biggest reason against Vigilante justice is that bystanders will see what they want to see. They might see an unknown black person breaking into a house and shoot him dead, when in fact it's their new neighbour who got locked out of his house and is a rich rapper. Yes, rappers deserve to get beaten, but not shot dead.
Another example could be to imagine for the sake of argument that this guy in the article was the girl's father and she was on drugs or something and trying to haul her back home so she could get help. And she screamed rape and all those people came over and beat the crap out of the guy. If you dont think shit like that happens, one time my sister was so pissed off at my dad on a trip that she screamed at a police officer that she was being kidnapped. So in a court, the facts can be sorted out and the appropriate justice metted out, whereas if justice is handed out by those on the scene right away... that's noo good.

We'll see soon cause hey're challenging a Louisiana law that has sentenced a man to death for the rape of his step daughter. Rape may become a capital crime. It was in Georgia for awhile. That got overturned though.

Oy. I'll fix it. That's what I get for trying to be clever. Thanks Gharm. Good to see you.

I see your point. But the guy in the argument was actually raping her. Any father who hauls their child home by dropping his pants and forcefully inserting his penis into her should be beaten. Or not. My Karma is just dropping by the second.

I think it's fine to make exceptions for instances where there is no question of what is happening. IE if I saw someone getting raped at gunpoint and I managed to get the gun away from the assailant, I would get them to the ground and "accidentally" shoot them in the nuts "while they were struggling and trying to get the gun back". I dont think I'd feel bad about that until I found out that they were roleplaying and it was all consentual. But then again, who the fuck roleplays with a loaded gun, amirite?
