After finally getting *almost* all of my programs back I am still kicking around the idea of Vista VS XP. Vista is prettier... but is still a ways off from being fully compatible with many programs. The main choice is over buying new virus/firewall software (the one I have now is only good for a month) and a lot of software that I had was outdated for Vista... but fine for XP. I *could* just switch the hard drives and be done with it, but I am hesitant. Maybe its because I like new things. Plus... It's nice to just not have to fuck around with the computer. I've spent waaaay too much time trying to save all my shit. I just wanna play!

i still have yet to hear good things about vista-- especially with video and editing -- having problems connecting with cameras and videocameras--ugg so i do not want

Well I've tried Vista and it's okay but for now I'm sticking with XP, I bought a new PC a few months ago while XP is still available.

Don't bother with Vista till you have no fucking alternative.:rude:

Seriously, the answer for everyone is Dual Boot. I have vista on my internal RAID storage, and xp on an external SATA disk that I can switch to when vista is molesting my no no place. DO NOT WANT!

Also, i suggest you stick with Xp, there is no way I'd use vista if i had to pay for it.

I wouldnt use it if I got it for free. Its incompatable with sooo many things.

Have yet to find something it wasn't compatible with. Some of the older versions may not work, but then, if it didn't work well on XP, it defiantly won't work on Vista.

On the topic of firewall, if you are behind the router (and you are) then the built in Vista firewall is more then adequate.

However, if you REALLY want a software firewall, wait till Comodo comes out for vista, which should be soon enough.

I have Vista on the puter I got a few months ago & LIIIIKE it! There are free downloads of drivers on the MSN site & I've had no problems. As a matter of fact, I think I like it more. I DID like XP a LOT, too.

Of course, I don't do the technical stuff that some of you guys sometimes do.

I really do want to try Vista, but I figured I'd wait until the bugs are all nicely worked out - given Microsoft's history and all.

I am a hardcore gamer so Vista is out for me at the moment at least until the first service pack comes out for it next year. I am stuck on a dual boot UBUNTU/XP machine right now. Next year we are both getting new machines so I will consider Vista again, but not unless they have a lot of the quirks worked out.

I'm a gamer. Vista works fine. The only stuff that may have problems is the stuff designed for Win 95,98,ME. But then.. it would have problems on any new hardware.

Intel C2D 6420 (2.13GHz)
2 Gigs DDR2 800
GF7300 GS PCI-Express 16x 256MB
SATA2-300 200 gig HDD.

The video will get replaced with a better card, probably an nvidia 8500 or something like it.

Vista came on my laptop and I don't really do much with a computer except mostly get on the internet and do resumes and other word processing stuff but I love the format of it. So it works for me. It does fuck with me when I use our desktop which has XP and I don't see my damn tabs at the top of my internet explorer page. lol I love that feature!!!

My next computer will have Vista home premium but that will not be for a while since I have three computers with XP on, my latest computer was bought recently. By the time I buy a new computer the bugs should be fixed.

Oh BTW, my latest computer cost £450, it was a HP computer, the other day I saw another HP with the same specs for £350 with Vista home premium. FUCK!
